Going old school (new arrival)
Yes, amidst a watch industry going for every growing size of watches, with more and more complications; see through-backs; experimental designs etc, etc, I decided to go the other way. Sitting at Mass with my wife and kids this past Sunday I looked down on my wrist and the Deepsea monster that was on there and it looked and felt so out of place. At the same time, my dress piece is a rose gold AP, which is a bit too dressy for many occasions and also rather sensitive compared to a stainless piece. Also, I do quite a bit of representation and public speaking for the company I work for, and it is not always right having big diver on the wrist, nor something too dressy, thus I re-visited and idea that has been brewing for quite some time. The Rolex Datejust!
The proportions and iconic styling of the 'regular' 36mm makes it such a compelling piece. The monochromatic results of a silver dial on a stainless steel watch appeals to me, partly because it flies under the radar, partly because it gives it a semi-vintage look and feel. The whole 36mm is too small is just utter humbug. I'm 6'1"/185 and it works just dandy on me. I thought about finding an older 16200, like the NOS my Swedish friend showed us the other day, but I realized that I find the updated bracelet with the new clasp and SEL worthwhile updates. I'm no big PLC fan, but I think it works rather well on this particular combination. Fresh from AD, my name on the card, full warranty, not a watch owned by anyone else. Voila. Enough with the rationale - here are a few quick photos after re-sizing it, before even removing the stickers! :-) It wouldn't be me if there wasn't a hand-in-jeans-pocket-shot! :-) Timeless design matters. |

Fantastic! I love the 16610 Sub and 16600 SD too, but there's something about this one. Understated, elegant, and under the radar, as you say.

Very nice! Congrats, my wife wears that very same watch as her daily wearer. Sometimes I wish I could put it on.

I love it. I've been thinking about the same watch, though with a fluted bezel. Great score!
