Icon20 Platinum Dilema - POLL

Hi everyone,

To cut a long story short. Looking to replace my recently sold platinum DD glacier blue, however, would like to have a poll to see what your thoughts might be.

Here is my list of possible candidates.

DD40 Platinum
DDII Platinum
Daytona Platinum
Or maybe a YG Sky-Dweller Silver dial

Appreciate your help and Thank You!

IMHO if you are interested in getting extra large PT watch, DDII is the one for you. DDII discontinued. The rest of your options are easy to find. Good luck. All are good choice! My personal take is the DDII first then followed by the Platona.

Thanks Jen! My dilemma is that I love the DDII, however, the new DD40 movement is just , the dial for me isnt what I am used to

I voted for the Platinum Daytona but own the Platinum DDII. While I like my DDII the President Band is not the most comfortable and there is no adjustment except for the addition or subtraction of links. The other issue is how much you will have tied up in a Platinum piece. Easily there is the price of a different PM watch and maybe two or more other SS models there. With that said, it is a beautiful watch.

If you're talking the DD40 with diagonal motif then that's a clear winner IMO.

Platona doesn't have date function.. I personally do not use the chronograph at all. That maybe a factor when making your decision. I been using my DDII for a few years now. Very accurate watch and since it is a daily beater for me, I do not need the extra power reserve. I think the dial is important for a daily beater watch. You need to buy the dial that sing to you or else you will not like to use it everyday. Just my humble opinion as an owner. I own Daytonass too. I find them a bit small for me and I much prefer a date fruition to a chrono.

Good luck!

Best regards,
James

Dd2 - I am biased of course but the Dd40 ice blue dial option is not as nice as the DD2. There are better looking Chrono's than the Daytona and the SkyDweller is too thick

My vote would go to the DD40.

Superior movement and the motif dial is stunning in person. The braclet also feels much more comfortable on the DD40 vs the DD2 IMO.

I don't own either, but if I were spending that kind of money, I'd want the 40 hands down.

Good luck in your decision.

Having recently considered all of those options, I opted for the platinum daytona. Congrats in advance.

My vote is the sky dweller in YG with the silver dial. As awesome as platinum is, for pm watches I prefer YG. I love the look, the sound it makes etc... That's my opinion. I also prefer a larger watch. I was torn between the same sky dweller and the YG white Roman day date II and got such a good deal on the day date II I couldn't pass it up. Happy hunting. You can't make a bad choice with the watches you are considering.

Just wondering if you've tried them all on? As the SKD is bigger than all the others, and with Ygold vs Plat....a much different look. I have/had/tried on, all of your picks....my PM choice was the SKD. that was the look I wanted, but still have my SS pieces as well. So, for me, I wanted all bases covered for daily wear. I rotate all equally. Love the Platona, platinum in general, and DD. I decided on Ygold after owning TT Daytona and Sub. It really spoke to me and complimented/ differed from what I already have.

It would be good to know why OP sold his platinum glacier blue DD. Did you need the money? Was the watch too small? I assume it wasn't the weight if you are looking to replace it with another platinum watch.

I have tried on all the platinum watches mentioned above. I think the DD40 is really nice. But I think the DDII will be the most collectible in the long run because of its relative short production run of ~ 6 years. My guess is the DD40 and the Platona will be produced for many more years to come. But buy what you like as they are all very nice watches. Of course you want to get it at the right price as there are steep discounts available on platinum watches.

Platona for me, but the DD40 with motif dial is also beautiful. Do you have anything else is in your collection?

Both are winners IMO, but try on both and make sure you can get the right fit with the DD bracelet. Since these are heavy watches, a good fit is very important. The Easylink on the Platona is a nice feature and facilitates a comfortable fit.

Good luck and look forward to the incoming!

A little enabling...

no sure why you got rid of your last Platinum watch?

in any event I personally prefer the Platinum and Rolex overall heavy weight champion...

Agree with this, plus I have the Daytona in ceramic already.

Also I presume you are looking for a dress/sports watch rather than pure sports to replace the DD with.
