HELP! BLNR or 216570 exp 2 (with these 3)

I have been wanting to pick up an explorer 2 for some time to "complete " my collection. However.....since trolling this forum over the last week I see people seem to be obsessed with the BLNR. Am I making the wrong choice? I feel the GMT is a bit too shiny and similar to my sub..but it is also very beautiful.

Will both watches have similar resale value if purchased at similar discount ? (A small consideration)

Explorer II is my favorite reference in the professional series. Awesome watch.
Either would be a great add to your collection, though. Try them on back to back. All will be clear.

I think the BLNR is a great choice, and would be the one I'd choose. If you're concerned about it being shiny, keep it mind it won't be as shiny as your Daytona with both the PCL and polished bezel.

Go with what you like, but BLNR is a fantastic watch.

ExII has notably less resale value than blnr. Used 6100$ or even less. Blnr is starting to lose steam some with used 8000-8200$
If you sell either to a trusted seller that's even less money for sure.
But what u like. I think u need some blue in the line.
Also look at Dj2 color options.

I wear my Exp II a lot more than my BLNR but both are great. You're a winner either way!

You may need some more colors besides either black or white in your collction. As for the resale values, you can compare the price differences between MSRP and BNIB for both watches in your local gray market, and then you will roughly know the answer. For the used watches in the same condition, the difference between them is much higher. But to choose what you love is much more important than other factors.

I agree with this. It sounds like the ExpII is the one you prefer yourself. I have both and love both but the white dial ExpII was my first ever Rolex. It's probably my favourite.

Personally, I would choose the BLNR as it is one of my favorite Rolex watches but if your heart says Explorer 2, then go for it.

Exp II is a steal in the 2nd hand market

I'd go for the BLNR as I didn't like the 42mm size of the Expy....plus blue and black are my favorite colors!

Exp II. A splash of orange and the 3187 - both of which are unique to the Exp II. Unless you see yourself flipping your next one, I wouldn't get hung up on resale value. The only thing that really matters is what sings to you. And the only way to find that out is to hit an AD and try all three of them on - Exp II (polar), Exp II (black), and BLNR.

100% agree with you here.

To OP you can't go wrong with either choice. I already have a 16570 polar and every time I see a black 216570 in the low to mid 5s I'm so tempted to pull the trigger.

Definately room for a dual time zone watch in that collection.
BLNR, is more flashily with PCL. But the blue bezel is outstanding and really pops.
Whereas the ExpII is more rugged and slimmer on the wrist. And you have a nice choice of dials to chose from.
Two black dials and two white dials for your collection!!!!??!

I would go with the Explorer II first. I like the white dial. It can be purchased with a sizeable discount new and at a very reasonable price used. I would let the BLNR market continue to settle a bit as I believe it is currently a bubble that can not be sustained by the number of watches that are in the market and new production. That is my speculation. Once you own the Explorer II you can start saving for the BLNR and have a watch that is a goal while keeping up with the prices.

Two things; you're unlikely to get a discount on the BLNR but you most probably will on Exp II. The BLNR will hold its value much better.

Don't let that sway you though. If you're set on the Exp II, then go for it. I personally would go BLNR, but it's all about which one sings to you. Good luck.

Great trio there! I have the outer ones (my sub is 16610) and am entertaining the idea of getting the center one

Back to topic, think explorer 2 is a better choice than BLNR

The MOST comfortable, yet rugged, fly-below-the-radar watch Professional Watch Rolex makes....FIXED-Bezel, 24 Hour-Hand, Date, Cyclops....

I just left the AD. I purchased all my watches from them and have a great relationship. He did say the "Batman" was sought after and it would take some time to get for me. However, he offered me the same % discount off retail as the 216570. I decided to go with the BLNR for this reason Perhaps I will grab a 216570 pre-loved another time.

While I was there they let me try on several beautiful watches. A skydweller in rose gold, a blue deep sea (James Cameron one?) , a full yellow gold daytona, and a DD40! It was an experience worth paying for!
