Odd recurring event....

I've been offered cars in trade for my Rolex on approximately three separate occasions. Has anyone else experienced this odd phenomenon?

Last offer was for a 2008 Dodge Magnum with 88,000 miles.

Strange.

And, yes. These exchanges have been random and out of the blue.

Perplexed.

no but, if you're seen walking a lot or at the bus stop maybe people think you need a car more than a watch?

Lol, no. Always either while shopping or like last time, at the oil change shop, guy says... he has five cars and will trade me for the watch... my reply was I have 3 cars and that's enough.

I was nice about it. Lol.

Begs the question..... What model Rolex are you sporting to command such offers?

Just a standard issue Day-Date.... I think these people are crazy for gold or don't know where to go to buy a Rolex? LOL.

Before that was a Tahoe. But, why would I trade a watch for another money pit! Just odd!

Once was weird enough but literally three times total in less than a year.
Interesting, I guess!

I've had a new car dealer offer to adjust the price on a new vehicle purchase if I put my Submariner in the trade, I never knew if he was serious or not.

Maybe they are thinking they'd have an easier time selling the watch than they have been having with trying to sell the car?

Logically that's what I've concluded.

I get it with the new car. Sales guy could work to lower the price $5-7k and get 100% of your watch value or sell the car with that $5-7k and only get a few % points off that.

Not watch related but the last three weeks we've had hand written notes for offers to buy our house in cash. Must have been a seminar in town last month.

I get those every Spring! Around here at least, they are looking for desperate folks to lowball. Always call them and politely say I own free and clear and to please move on.

I don't think most do, but when they do, they make it known. No negative comments.

As a WIS, I, of course, do notice watches and Rolexes aren't common.

You just don't really see them.

The people who notice them always wanted one and they compliment? I don't know!

As I stated in the year or so I've had it, maybe 10 people have said something about it. Including the three trade offers.

How about a MB 500SEC for a Rolex.

If I ever traded for a car, I'd kick myself in the tail each and every time something went wrong with it. All cars need maintenance but I'd be the one saying

'I should have kept the Rolex!'

I would love to trade a couple of mustangs I have for a watch. But I've never been offered a car for a watch.
