New insert for my 5512?

I saw this at a local shop. What do you think? Insert is $300.00.

My 67 5512

Replacement insert

How's the new look?

If you like the look, go for it! I'll make you whole and buy the trashed old insert for $350. ;)

I see someone is not so opposed to new(old) inserts anymore.

That GMT one was for my buddy. Personally, I love the old ones. Here's what I'm wearing today:

I will send you a brand new shiny insert in exchange for that old and disheveled piece

Depends on YOU.

The shiny, gives the watch, a fresh look, the tortured shows a different user profile.

The point is to enjoy your watch, to a full extend.

I keep mine ALWAYS shiny, but thats me. I hate all these wounds, and cannot wear a watch that came back from the battle and full of scars with a suit.

I'd buy the insert as a spare. I like the original best. I would keep the spare as just that.

Faded all over, YES, scratched and broken to places and with bits missing, is a different story.

Enjoy it!

To OP, if you like the new and clean look, go for it. It's your watch, wear it how you like. Just hold on to the old one, they're only increasing in value.

I dislike something that looks too battered and knackered. I know it's original and authentic but to me it looks unattractive. I would put the new insert on but keep the old one should you chose to sell the watch down the line.

That looks like a current luminova insert.

300.00 is a pretty steep price for that.

I went all the way with this one....it wasn't very nice and I didn't have the original dial...

Likewise I did not have the original dial or bezel on my 5512 and they are Rolex service replacements and the watch was priced to reflect this when I bought it. I love the watch though - it's a practical and usable vintage watch and to my eyes far more charming than the new Subs with their odd looking bracelets. Nothing wrong with service replacements if that's what floats your boat. So long as the price is right when you buy it or, if you are replacing original parts, you keep them so an original condition lover can put them back on if you sell the watch. If you don't keep them you'll certainly lose money on a resale. I would not replace a dial though unless I absolutely had to - although service dials look great a nice yellowed tritium dial is very attractive.

Any "long 5" MKII fat font insert is better than a thin font insert regardless of condition. Also $300 is pricey.

Yes, good call

I had the same problem when I picked up my 1962 5512 pcg a few years back, glad I left it as was.

Exactly. If you want new and shiney then buy a new watch.
That’s a killer insert and matches the watch perfectly.

I like the way the watch was, the shiny insert doesnt have the character or feel. But hey its your watch:)
