I believe they are not as popular because their bezels dont age very well. The bezels get a grungy look after a few years compared to a Sub of any age that can look pristine. I personally love the way the YM look when new.

I feel the EXACT SAME WAY. Would have picked one up long ago if I wasn't concerned about the size. I wish they would make them in 42mm. It would be irresistible for me at that size!

Had the platinum dial, now i own the blue dial. Almost perfect, but it should be all ss, the platinum bezel looks nice, but should be replaced by ss for this model. Replacing the bezel is too expensive, and because of this watches like this do not performs well on secondary Market.

I actually bought it for myself as a wedding gift 13 years ago and it’s not going anywhere. Rolex took some risk with this design. Not having history of sub or gmt or complications of a Daytona it was challenged in marketing to the traditional professional watch buyer. Its less tools and more jewelry.ha it works for me.

Lately this reference seems to be growing in popularity on TRF. Could it be I have finally purchased something that became popular AFTER I bought it?

My AD had one in stock about a week ago. The price was $10k if I’m not mistaken (or somewhere around there).

If what is said above about ADs offering a 15% discount on this one is true, then that puts you at around $8500.

It is a beautiful watch in person. Pics don’t really do this one justice.

When I bought my plat YM In 05 i had to have that dial. The blue was only offered in TT back then and was my favorite TT of any Rolex. It did make me think about having a second YM.

I like it a lot, but haven’t pull the trigger......... yet

I think would look for an used one with blue dial, which seems hard to get on the 16622, more common (and expensive) on the newer 116622 model. Here is the 116222 at my local AD:

It's nice to see a normal-sized, nicely-contoured case on 6 digit ref Rolex. Looks great.

The rhodium-dialed YM still has the .950 platinum bezel. Just like the original SS/PL and the blue-dialed reference.

I went for the 16622 and love it. It's my daily piece most of the time. It's so comfortable and looks stunning person. Especially out in the sun and the lume is amazing in it.

The 5 digit reference is fairly affordable too. I love the "look" of the old style clasp, but of course prefer the clasps on my Hulk and BLNR. I am actually looking to see if I can find and fit mine with one of the newer clasps, but not sure if I can actually do that. Let me know if anyone has done this. I don't want to buy an entire new bracelet, but it would be cool if I could fit it with the newer clasp.

The YM for sure feels more like a luxury version of a sub. Very shiny and stands out. Also has some nice weight to it with the platinum mix of metal.

The original SS/Plat Yachtmaster is one of only a couple watches I’ve owned twice. The first one lured me back to Rolex circa 2000 after a decade’s absence. And yes, in the beginning they were “hard to get,” waitlists and all. I sold it less than a year later to buy my first Daytona 16520. A year later I added another Yachtmaster which I think I held onto for a few years.
I agree that it was a Sports Rolex that didn’t look like the others and still flies under the radar a bit. The newer blue and rhodium dial versions look great.
