For me, asthetically, the end links give the win to the 40mm.
i think it's the bezel thickness. 36 looks fine on my >6.5 but <6.75 wrist, which was a surprised to me as I've always got 40 or larger watches.

I hope to own the Day-Date 40 someday. So that gets my vote.

My favorite would be the platinum day-date 40 with the ice blue diamond dial. I told the AD that would be my next purchase once I won the lottery.

In-person the 40 bezel and proportions are still too big. Anything is possible with photoshop, but you don't wear a computer monitor on your wrist.

I have 6.75" wrists, and prefer the 40. I'd happily wear a 36, but it wouldn't be my first choice because of how small it feels. I'm not a fan of the huge-watch trend, but I really do think that at this point 39-41 is the accepted standard size for a man's (non-sport) watch.

It's all in the EYE'S, without calipers for measurements? I'd say very nil in differences there. But I have reservations for the Classic 36mm myself.

I would go for 40 for only these reasons

Ceramic inserts in the links
To my eyes, prettier Roman numerals
Endlinks look better
New movement

In my mind, a Day-Date should be two things:
- gold
- 36mm

You just have to try them on. You will know as soon as you put them on. There totally two different feels. 4mm is a big difference. Look at the post how people talk about a 1mm difference.

40 all day, every day even if for the new 3255 movement alone.

The new bracelet integration is also very flattering. Makes it even more slender than it is. Tremendous by Rolex. They nailed it.

36 for the older folks.

Both are beautiful pieces, no matter the size. I think if your wrist is 6.5 or over, you can pull of the 40 no problem. Wrist over 7.5, I think the 40 definitely looks better proportioned. Anything in between...either is a go
Very much personal preference though.

I've owned more than one 36, a 41, and now a 40. Each has its own charm, but I'll stick with the 40...

Hands down 40... the updates are just not comparable to the older model plus the size is much more ideal for modern day men.

I've had all three: 36, 40, DD2. The 40 is the only one to stick around.

36mm with new movement. It's disgraceful that Rolex has left the 36mm size with the old movement for women. Rather misogynistic.

Numerous ADs looked at me weird when I went in to see the 36mm DD. They said its a womens size and specifically targeted that audience.

I tend to agree. These days a 40mm suites a man much better. Plus the DD40 has all the new whistles and the proportions on it are perfect.
