Narrowing it down.. SS DaytonaC Black Dial or WG Oysterflex Daytona?

Last week I posted a poll on the 116500LN Black Dial vs. the 116515LN RG Daytona Chocolate Dial on the leather strap, most preferred the 116500LN.

Agreed with with the poll results that the 116500LN was the better watch (at least for me), I could wear it daily here in Hawaii and it was more understated which is important to me.

Before I pull the trigger and pay the hefty (but market rate) premium for a BNIB 116500LN (life is short!), I just wanted to circle back to TRF one more time and run another poll on the Black DaytonaC against the White Gold Oysterflex Daytona model (116519LN). There is still a significant price difference between the two even after the SS premium, but all things considered equal, which model do you guys like better?

The SS black dial DaytonaC or the WG Oysterflex DaytonaC? Has to be one or the other in my shoes, I've narrowed it down to either pulling the trigger on the SS DaytonaC or waiting a bit and grabbing the WG model later this year either from an AD locally or trusted seller when they start surfacing in the classified ads.

I would keep the SS Daytona OEM and wouldn't put an Everest strap or other strap on it most likely.

The SS Daytona appeals to me because of how understated/under the radar it "could" (?) be and of course the design is timeless, but I have always enjoyed watches on straps for their comfort and it seems like the WG model could still be a bit under the radar.

All opinions welcomed!!

Thanks as always.

Sammy

After seeing the white gold in person, I'd say I prefer it over the SS, whichever dial. It's almost as light as the SS since it's oysterflex. If price is not an issue, I'd personally go for the WG oysterflex.

Tough call, I had the 116500 for 8 months and it was my daily wearer.
I recently sold it and got the RG Daytona on Rubber with rose dial mainly to change things up.
If I didn't crave rose on rubber so badly I probably would have gotten the WG on OF.
So I voted for the WG... These new Basel 2017 Daytonas are just so fresh, modern and comfortable.
Plus all these new dials are stunning (well, some are not new, but paired with OF they are).
I like the champagne on yellow gold too.

I love my black 116500 that my wife and son got me for my 40th birthday. It blends in all occasions and being in sales, it doesn't scream out at folks and draw unnecessary attention.

However, I would also love to have a Daytona RG on leather strap as it is more of an elegant look. But when I get into that price range I would pony up the extra $ and buy my rose gold DD, which happens to be my grail.

The SS Daytona would be my choice. The WG is nice but would only own it on a bracelet.

Agree. I would do the gold on a bracelet. Go SS if I were you.

Two very different watches IMO.

The WG case is subtly different from the SS, with thicker case sides and lugs. Wears larger as a result.

Do you want a chrono on a rubber strap or a chrono on a bracelet?

The white dial 116500 never did it for me, but the black dial is a totally different story.

I voted WG even though I'm still not sure about the Oysterflex Bracelet.

I wonder if WG oysterflex is as difficult to read as a plat yacht. Seems sub dials might help..

Of the current two, easily the Oysterflex Daytona in WG.

That being said I still own an 116520, that fills the modern SS void, so take with a grain of salt.

Same here, but even so the panda dial and concentrated feel and heft of the WG are just lovely. At retail the D500 is a strong challenger but no way if you are paying a premium, has to be the WG here.

i'm that same case as you, i'm esitating between the WG and the RG on oyster flex,
i forgot about the SS because i want the leather or oyster flex bracelet ..... not a huge fan of the SS bracelet. even know it's a clasic!!! don't get me wrong. i like to have stuff that not everybody as.
i love the grey dial of the WG which is new. it's a WG but most people will think it's a regular SS which is good for me, i like to stand out but not to much.
as for the RG i love it with the white dial .... but i don't know if i can assume to wear a RG watch and i think it's harder to match with clothes ..... as i wear suit and tie for my job ...
i'll like to see both in real and decide as they both sold out in my country
for my everyday watch i have an AP royal oak chrono on a orange crcco bracelet and for the WE i have an AP Ginza carbon ....
i have a few other watches that i don't wear. a hermes chrono, an oyster quartz, and an tag F1

I voted for the WG OF. But if I were you I'd select something else. Only because that may shorten the time I receive my WG OF on order.

The RG works very nicely with suit and cufflinks, and as you know PP, AP and Lange all make their dress watches with a RG option nowadays.

The 116500's are awesome no doubt....but that WG Daytona on Oysterflex......another level. The dial is just too good.

i know but with my job i don't have the guts to wear it :) might be a bit to much.
my order options will be the RG royal oak, but would do 3 AP for me.
or the WG aquanaut that comes out in september but to expensive for me know and hard to find .... i don't like the bracelet of the nautilus :)
i have always dreamed of a daytona that might be the opportunity but still esitating on the Rg or WG daytona :) but i love the dial of the WG

Yeah, totally agree with Neil.

This generation of OF with the easy link clasp are going to be home runs, IMO.

I was skeptical on the OF bracelet until I played around with my wife's RG YM. It's pretty incredible.

If I was to choose an "one and only" watch it would be the SS Daytona.

However, as part of a collection that also has a Sub, a BLNR (that maybe becomes a BLRO one day), etc, I like the diversity that the WG OF Daytona brings.

I'm trying to make the same decision. I already have a platona but want to add another daytona. Wonder if any Daytona collection needs a ss version or could skip it for the wg instead. The wg is really stunning and I would love to be able to wear a strap with swimming etc. my vote is for the wg.
