Post your Photography Gear....

Don't know if this is ok to start, but I like the Nature photos thread idea, and I'm kind of a gear nerd/geek. So, post up the camera gear you have currently. Maybe even links to your flickr, etc. My setup is nothing much now. I've gone from Canon(XT, 40D, 5DII, 7D) to Nikon now.

Body: Nikon D3300

Lenses:
AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR II
AF-S DX NIKKOR 55-200mm f/4-5.6G ED VR II
AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8G

Soon to have....Tokina AT-X PRO 100mm f2.8 D AF Macro

And possibly the 35mm f/1.8

I have both the 50 & 35 in 1.8, they're great lenses for DX.

Occasionally wish I had 1.4 (especially indoors no flash) but not often enough to be worth investing ;)

I new to photography and just shoot a cheap Cannon S110 for underwater photography. This is mainly due to size while traveling as with underwater housing, strobes, arms and extra lighting it can get very big and heavy. Also because it's cheap I can carry a back up camera in case my housing floods on day 1 of a week long dive boat trip.
I am considering upgrading to a mirrorless. Any thoughts on the performance of these?

Ah haven't been there but it looks very similar to the abbey I visited.. I can't remember the name but we went there one midnight, pitch black, and bumped into some American tourists who decided to do the same thing..

I have been using a Nikon user for over 20 years now. Currently I have:

Nikon FM2N
Nikon D810

24mm 2.8 AFD
50mm 1.4 AFD
50mm 1.8 AFS
16-35 F/4 AFS VR
28-70 3.5/5.6 AFD
70-200 F/2.8 AFS VR1

Sold off my 85 1.4 AFD as I rarely get the opportunity to use it. And also the 24-70 f/2.8 v1 as I found it bulky and has to be stopped down to f/5.6 to be sharp.

The lenses that I use most often is the 16-35. Great walk around lenses, weather proof and has VR in low light to sustain a lower ISO and shutter speed. A little bigger than most, but still smaller and lighter than the 24-70.

Correct me if I am mistaken but I'm assuming that most TRFers are digital photographers. I've always been partial towards analog/film but since Kodachrome was discontinued, my older M2R gets little use these days. It looks like a dinosaur but the camera served me well from the mid-70s throughout the 1990s.

Got rid of my Nikon D700 and all the lenses and picked up a simple Leica d-Lux Typ 109. Couldn't be happier

In studio I use a Nikon D700 with a Zeiss 100mm Macro Planar or a Laowa 60mm lens.

Outside a Nikon D3x with a Nikon 70-200mm or a 28-300mm.

Compact for pics and video a Sony RX100IV & Nikon CollPix S9900 for macro.

No, I wouldn't say so tbh, it is more a street and landscape shooter (IMHO). I am sure that a good image could be cropped in really close but it wouldn't be a true macro and would have less precision.

Fun thread! My wife and I recently sold 90% of our Canon gear (1DMkIV, 5DMkIII + 10 or so lenses) and made the switch to Sony mirrorless. Very happy with the outcome of that switch in terms of image quality, portability and usability. Also jumped into the digital medium format world, which is a fun place.

Thank you Chris, I love it and do the same, I have had a couple of SLR's before but found that I ended up collecting lenses and gadgets that I didn't really use. This is lovely, nice and small (relatively). I also wish I was better in Lightroom as well. I tend to just push and pull sliders, not really knowing what I am doing but stopping when I get to something that is pleasing to my eye.

I've been working in LR for a decade or so and have taught a number of classes to folks who are looking to learn the basics. First place to start in LR is the histogram in the top right corner of the screen (when you're in the Develop module - just hit D on your keyboard to get there).



You can click and drag right in the histogram itself, which is a really handy feature. You'll notice as you mouse over the histogram from left to right you'll get Blacks, Shadows, Exposure, Highlights and Whites. You can click and drag (left-to-right or right-to-left) any of those to adjust them. In the upper corners of the histogram you have clip warnings (triangles); if these are white, you're clipping. So, as a quick rule of thumb, adjust the blacks until they're not-quite clipping, adjust the exposure til the meat of the histogram is in the middle, and adjust the highlights until they're just under clipping. These are just starting points - not rules, mind you. But here's an example of out-of-the-camera vs applying these basic adjustments:



Now obviously the better you expose your shot in the first place, the less adjusting you'll have to do in your post processing. I didn't do a very good job setting my camera up for that shot, so had to tweak things quite a bit (a little too excited to crack open my whiskey apparently - haha).

This is what I have now. Photography is fun and rewarding. Making memories that last a lifetime. I really need to upgrade my camera to the Nikon D500. I have a bunch of Really Right Stuff gear too. They make quality support equipment.
