Hulk or SD4K or SubC Date?

Hey guys, I'm close to jumping into my first Rolex purchase after being a long time PaneristI. I've narrowed it down to 3 that I can somewhat easily acquire (ie without having to wait 2 years for a Daytona C or pay through the nose on the Grey market).
I can get the Sub C date and the Hulk at or slightly below retail AD pricing. I have 3 questions:
1. Which one of the three should I buy for my first Rolex?
2. Which ones will likely keep or even appreciate in value 3. What's a good price range to pay for the three watches I mentioned?
Ive been offered the sd4k bnib for $9500US
The Sd4ks for sale on this forum don't seem to be moving.
I have seen the Hulk for at or near Retail AD pricing.
Any help would be appreciated.

That's an incredible deal on the SD4K. Can't see how you wouldn't take that.

1) you could immediately sell it for like $1000 more
2) it is an incredible watch, I've had mine on for a week and it hasn't come off. My gold sub is getting jealous

Never liked the Sea-Dweller line. Too tall. I'm a sub purist and Hulk is the best sub. So Hulk.

I have owned all three for years! Clearly there is no bad choice here, but having said that, I can tell you that my SDC4K has easily won the battle for wrist time! So much so in fact, that I sold off the Black Sub C over a year ago and have not missed it even slightly! I easily prefer the silhouetted dimensions of the SDC4K over the squared off Maxi case of Sub C's! But either way I still love the LVC and enjoy wearing it in the rotation!

I had all three and keep none. Let me break it down for you.

SubC : My first Rolex and flipped due to itch after nearly 2 years wearing as sole watch. High potential for one-watch-guy and even end game for me. Had second chance to redecide as I bought Sub Date for second time but ultimately keep the ND. It boils down to date requirement, no wrong choice honestly. Thanks to Rolex for giving us options, this is the only model with Date/ND version!

Hulk : Initially doesn’t like the green dial nor the bezel but seduced when saw it on someone wrist. Bought and flipped within 1 month. Green is not versatile for daily wear imho.

SD4K : Another favourite of mine but flipped due to it discontinued and price spiking up (made some profit ). Sole reason for flipping, it wear tall although comfortable. Non cyclop with date is bonus. The satin dial get boring after a while.

Currently wearing the Sub ND and hopefully my insanity is kept locked, at least until I have my paw on SD43.

I have the older seadweller and the new SD43..the SD4k did nothing for me so I got the LVc instead.

If you can only have one, this one by a long shot IMO. All great watches, just would pick up the SD4K or LV later down the line for your collection. Go more versatile now

For my 2p the SD4K was my first Rolex but I was after a sub. The Sub is thinner and more comfortable for sure. The SD just stood up a bit tall for me and the clasp was a bit thicker. No chance with certain shirts. I have watches to wear so don't regret selling it on that front, but financially I wish I had tried to hold onto it, I just couldn't afford two at that point. I'm now looking at flipping the Sub for a Hulk

I've had the SD4K since it's release and it still gets lots of wrist time despite me adding a Royal Oak and a Ceramic Daytona since.

When I first got the Daytona the SD got no wrist time and during the Daytona honeymoon period I considered selling the SD as thought I'd never wear it again. It now gets more time on the wrist than the Daytona!

I'm a huge fan of the SD. I like the fact that I've never seen one in the wild, whereas Subs are pretty common at my work place, there are even three LVC's in my office.

I had a sub and flipped after two months, but that was because I couldn't get on with gold. But I replaced it with the GMT, because in addition to the gold factor, there were two other issues. Firstly, the lugs make it look a bit square, which I'm not a big fan of. Secondly, it wears big and I have small wrists.

So, lots of rambling, in summary I'd get the SD without hesitation. But...the Sub is iconic, and is slightly more comfortable.

As a started i would the the black Sub or the SD. Goes with everything. The Hulk is harder to match with some clothing

Sd4k is a great watch, but sits tall and not as comfortable as sub c date.
Sub c date is versatile and comfortable.
The hulk is the Sub C's envious cousin, once again not as versatile.

What are you talking about? I've watched sd4k listings on the forum sit for under $10k, new. This is not solid advice, whatsoever

Get the black, SubC Date. You'll be glad you did. Goes with everything, is comfortable, has classic looks, holds its value pretty well, and you can flip it relatively quickly, if necessary.

For me, the LVC has always felt the most special. That dial is constantly changing and looks amazing in all lighting.

I would guess the SD4K based on the short period of time it was in production. But, the key word here is 'guess'...so please don't take this as intelligent advice!

I would say that although the SD sits a little higher, the balance is good so I don't feel it. I had the previous model (16600) and that felt imbalanced but the 116600 doesn't.

I may be in the minority, but I see the Sub and the SD as being very different watches. Some of the differences:

- SD has fully graduated bezel
- SD has thicker crystal
- Sub has date magnifier
- SD has Satin dial
- Sub has thicker lugs, creating a square look
- SD has more shapely crown guards
- SD has the divers extension
- SD has the 'waterfall end-links'
- SD has deeper case back
- SD has the helium escape valve

I think they may also have different clasps, but can't remember.

The above list are not necessarily good (or bad) things, they are a matter of taste. But it does show how different they are.

Final consideration, is wrist size and shape. Despite the stats suggesting the SD is bigger, the Sub wears a lot bigger. Again, could be a good or bad thing, it depends on your size and your preference. The Sub wore just a little large for me.

FWIW, for my first and possibly one and only Rolex, then I'd go with an SD4K. I really like the LVc, but I don't think I'd want to wear green everyday. Sure the SD is a little bigger and heavier than the Sub Date, and I don't know about you but I'm not some scrawny 100 pound weakling (I'm no NFL linebacker either). IMHO the size of the SD should not be a concern as it's plenty comfortable for all day wear. I don't really take future resale into consideration. I think you just need to buy what you like, and not what you think someone else might like when you get tired of it. Good luck with you decision!

Dollar and cents aside.. I sold my LVC, BLNR, Sub date and currently enjoy the SD4K very much.

Remember it's ideally going to be with you for a long time. So ultimately you have to pick ~your~ favorite. Cheers!
