Moving away from 392, need recommendations
I currently wear a PAM 392, a beautiful watch, but I'm really having a hard time wearing it, even though it's 42mm the thickness is way to much for a comfortable wear, I think it's about 18mm thick, so I will eventually sell, I'm trying to find a replacement Panerai that checks few boxes for me, but with the way Panerai randomly numbers their models it's getting impossible to find something on my own, The one that checks all my boxes is the PAM 1392, slim 42mm but it has this blue seconds hand that ruined it for me, so here's what I'm looking for:
-Prefer 42 or 44 -only Luminor or Luminor 1950 case, no radiomir -manual or automatic, don't care much for in house movement either. -sits flatter on the wrist without much heft to it -brushed case only (that's were it's getting difficult for me) -simple clean dial, with or without seconds hand. -value around $5000-5500 new or pre owned -prefer a black dial, chocolate dial is ok -sandwich dial preferred The PAM 176 is a good option, with its brushed titanium case is checks most of my boxes, but it's getting hard to find. Can you guys recommend few models? Thanks! |

Open to brushing the case of a 111, 005, etc?
Otherwise, 164 gets you all but a "simple" dial. |

I thought only downtown Ben Bridge carried Panerai in Seattle, that's what's listed on Panerai's website as an AD, they had very limited stock which drove me crazy! I need to check Goldfarbs, thanks for the info.

Due, deal with the polish. Fits great. Btw I have the 1392 and it solves for the top heaviness. A shame you don't like blue seconds hand. One of my favorite parts.

I'd re-consider the 1392. Got mine today and love it! I had a 392 and much happier with 1392. Picked up th grey and brown assolutamente straps for it.

If you can find one it sounds like a 111 would work

I'd recommend the 562 as well, gotta love that base 8mday with the brown sandwich dial. I personally prefer the 560, but you prefer a brushed case instead of a polished one. If you're willing to spend a little more, I HIGHLY recommend a 233. Once you get a 1950 case Luminor, you'll see what the fuss is all about!

Even a 512 is much thinner. The due are really nice. Too thin for me though

Here is one important consideration with the 1392, the crystal shape.
I was able to compare the 392, 1392, and the DUE at a Panerai boutique recently. The 1392 is indeed much thinner, even a smidge thinner than my 861 Speedmaster Pro I was wearing at the time. And it felt great on the wrist. However, there is a bit visual difference between the 1392 and 392. It took a while to figure out...but the crystal shape is different. On the 392, the crystal is a bit domed and blends into the bezel very well. But on the 1392, it is flat. I think the bezel surrounding the crystal is also a teeny bit flatter too. The result is a bit different. Face on, the 1392 crystal does not reflect the light back the same way as the 392. The 1392 flat shape and crystal makes the dial brighter but flat. The 392 dial seems a bit darker but catches reflection more like my hersalite speedmaster dome crystal. I do like the thinness and the color of the 1392, but it looks a bit different than the 392. But I like the crystal shape of the 392. The 1392 feels balanced on my puny wrist, while the 392 is very top heavy. For me, it's back to square 1. I was leaning toward 392, then 1392, then 392, and now confused. :( |

I tried the PAM620 at the AD and was blown away, beautiful watch, but the 10k price tag for it was hard to swallow, I'm having a hard time seeing the value in it, do you guys have any experience with this micro rotor Panerai in house movement?

Thankyou very much for that little bit of info on how the 392 can get uncomfortable. I am actually begin to find myself enjoying finding and figuring out all the different variations of the Panerai. |

I've just posted the same query but in reverse, I'm wondering if anyone has pictures side on and on the wrist, I suspect one will be too thick for me also.

I picked up the 572 as my one and only Pam....for now. Have had no issues with the movement for he past several months. After over 3 weeks since last time setting and 4+ days a week of wear it is still holding at -10 seconds total. That is pretty good to me. Don't even think about accuracy anymore. Overall am very happy with the movement. I was also considering the 620 but fortunately (or delusional) I liked the look of the 45mm on my 7in or so wrist. |
