Super macros Adam! They show the applied lume on the numbers quite well. My Ranger lume lasts all night. Could easily read the time at 530 this morning. The more I wear this watch, the more I like it.

Excited to be here...one observation, it wears dressier than I expected with the leather band...in a good way. Threw on the camo for fun and really loved the versatility (although I beat up the lugs a bit when changing the band).

You're right, the Ranger does look very smart on leather, almost like a Panerai from a distance. Hope you're lugs are ok. Try wooden toothpicks next time.

The lug holes make removing a band quite easy, but I've found placing a new band on somewhat frustrating. In trying to compress the spring bars without the usual shoulders I, too, have scratched the lugs. Arghhh...

The strap I ordered from Bas and Lokes showed up. Couldn't be happier. They continue to show why they're my favorite strap maker currently.

Hi Adam,

Thanks for the welcome on the other thread so here I am. :)

You're spot on re the bracelet. When I bought the Ranger last year it wasn't available with the bracelet so I bought it with the regular leather/nato package. Couple months ago I had some time to visit RSC for the original bracelet and it cost me hkd5,300 (~USD680).

It's definitely makes more sense to buy with bracelet and shop for leather and not the other way around, which I did.

on bracelet

on leather/bund

Bracelet will be required for the summer too! I like that Bund strap Richard...that's a good look. Where did you get it?

The strap is a Caitlin 2 from Peter Gunny and the bund pad is from Strapcode, available in several colors.

Ive actually been wearing my ranger on a Black Bay Black Woven Strap these past few weeks. Really didn't like it first of all but having broken it in a little it really is super comfortable and its a nice light summer option.

Super happy with the way this strap came out. Incredibly soft.

Lots of nice pictures added recently, I see!

One thing that really, really works is the matt black dial with the cream markers and hands out in the sunlight. It's visible no matter what. Even though I believe there's no AR coating on it, it just won't give any reflections.

And the lume as mentioned, is really good and somewhat sharp to look at. I don't know how to explain this, but I have a Seiko SKX009 and recently gotten a SBDC001 which both has outstanding lume. However looking at the markers and hands while glowing, they seem blurry. The Ranger does not. It's as bright, but crystal clear... Weird.

Super visibility. I keep mine on a shelf and use it as a clock, when I'm not wearing it.

Thats the winning combo for me. The stitching on that strap with the creamy lume is stunning. If I can just not look at the next "Incoming BB RED" thread, Ranger is my next watch.

The scratch (well, um, scratches) are small, only surface level...I will not join the chorus of other posters worrying about getting that first scratch immediately, although it does sting when the watch is only a few days old. I love the toothpick idea, not sure when I will be bold enough to try again!

This is a great thread. Thanks Adam.

What is the Rangers heritage? Has it been used on expeditions? We know the Rolex marketing machine makes a big deal about the explorer...

Wondered what the Rangers is...

I'm not aware of the Ranger ever having been used on a major (or even minor) expedition, although its predecessor/base model the Oyster Prince was used used (about 30 watches as I recall) on the British North Greenland Expedition of 1952-54, in the same way that the Oyster Perpetual was carried by Hillary (and/or Tenzing) in 1953. The difference being that the Tudors were used long-term and relied upon, unlike the Rolex OP which was just taken along for the comparatively short ride. The Ranger was produced from the late 60s to late 80s.

It's interesting to note, however, that the Ranger name was registered by Rolex in 1929, about 25 years before the name Explorer was registered.

Received a brown canvas strap by Micah over the weekend. Most comfortable strap I've ever worn.

Ok!

Just tried the ranger on at an AD.

It's far better in person, a really great watch. I think it's got more presence than the explorer. There's a lot of badge going on with the Rolex...
The ranger...

An update on accuracy: seems like my ranger settled at -3/4 sec per day. It was well adjusted from factory as its barely any difference in which position it is in, but the rate has slowed down from +0.5 a day to what's already mentioned. Had my local watchmaker adjust it today. He used less than 5 mins on the adjustment and it's now +2/3 sec a day. Perfect!

Tried the Ranger on my Ted Su gator strap yesterday. Not my favorite combo but wanted to give it a shot.
