I'm far from a purist but that watch looks beautiful now, and it looked crappy before with that dial issue. Sure you can't sell it at Philip's for a zillion dollars but there's nothing fake about it. Great watch, well done

Looks great. I am a bit of a purist, but based on your story, it's exactly what I would have done too. Beautiful watch that looks wonderfully restored. Congrats!

Rik did a fantastic job. The iPhone pictures don't capture the quality of his work, and particularly the almost chocolate/black shine of the dial. I prefer having the original dial refinished than paying 2x as much for someone else's gilt dial in at best ok shape. Prices for these dials have gone a bit nuts.

I can't believe the dial work. It looks superb.
Any idea who did the works on the dial? I am trying to find some experts in dial repair/re-finishing. Thank you! |

The link to Rik's shop is http://www.timecareinc.com/. Rik also is an expert on the appropriate fonts and colors, and he handled the whole project, including coordinating the work done in London on the dial. The pearl dot lume has not yet been matched due to time constraints, but that also will be taken care of by Rik. Other than that, this watch really looks like it came out of the factory yesterday. This is amazing work.
Somehow the dial on my watch had gotten all messed during one of the repairs in Miami in the early 1970s. For example, the bottom of the dial was touched up and "SWISS T < 25" became "SWISS". It appears the last "S became the first "S" and the rest of the letters were painted on, as "SWISS T < 25" was too difficult for whoever touched it up. The serial number of 1.19m and the 1965 date on the watch don't correspond to a Swiss only dial. Rik figured all this out and made sure the refinished dial was as it should be for the date and serial number. I cannot recommend him more strongly. Paul |
