Thoughts on this 5513 precomex

Hi guys,

I'm a newcomer to this forum and to vintage watch as well
I'm keen with this precomex, #5,1 mill serial, circa 1977, with 93150 bracelet and 580 endlinks (pics attached)
From my eyes, the dial looks good to me, but i would like to get some feedback from the experts for the insert, hands, and engraving before pulling the trigger
Please kindly let me know your comments about this watch, thank you

Perhaps you could post photos where the hands are not obscuring the printing and showing the full insert.

I’m not seeing any obvious problems, but if you want the best feedback, you should post the best photos possible.

A cursory look at the watch indicates to me that it looks like a nice watch.

The end links are later service replacements. As far as the warranty paper goes, collectors don't get overly excited about handwritten warranty paper sets but they were not that uncommon 40 years ago. With that said, where's the box set and rest of the accessories? When I see just a warranty paper and watch which is missing everything else, it makes me wonder whether the guarantee/warranty paper was added at a later time to enhance the value of the watch. For me, I wouldn't put a premium on this watch because of a handwritten warranty paper and the absence of the accessories; such as the boxes, booklets, hang tags, vinyl folio, translation booklet . . . and so on.

Totally agree on this !
I do not know about the watch, but the paper seems to be a bit strange to me.
Indeed, the Boutique and Address are period correct, even if the boutique has closed more than 30 years ago, but I can tell you that for sure, as a Frenchman, we are never never never....never ever writing "Avenue" as "ave" and Postal Code for Nice is not 06 but 06000, which is standardized for all french cities...and, by the way, we never write this unless you post a letter...(strange) French rule...

So to me, it is 99.9% sure that no Frenchman could possibly write something like this.
IMHO

So, the watch is maybe genuine but the papers...not so sure...

I'd say it was written by a left-handed female. Not that it helps with authenticity.

The watch looks solid otherwise.

Other than the detailed french explanation as to how they write addresses, looks good to me as well. Hands are super clean, to my eyes don't show any corrosion. Is it possible to get a closer look? They match the dial and all, but there is usually at least a point or 2 where some corrosion usually appears

That looks like an amazing example. Maybe I'm missing it but did you say where/who you're purchasing it from? A reputable vintage dealer? An antique shop? A random person you don't really know?

Assuming it's coming from a trusted source that thing looks beautiful.

I'm still planning to buy it from a random person

Looks like a strong example. The lack of corrosion on hands would make me want to see them under UV to compare texture with dial lume. Crystal is aftermarket. Otherwise looks strong. Definitely don't pay extra due to the paperwork as many have noted. Good luck with the purchase!

I do not have the skills to determine who's who...
The watch looks very good, but I was just mentionning the papers...and paying an extra for this kind of "obviously fake" papers is a joke.

Can you explain what are the signs indicating an aftermarket crystal? Thanks

I’ve no expert opinion, but that Submariner looks really nice!! Thankfully, there are a lot of experts here to help you decide.

Hope you can sort it all out and get this treasure.

I love my 14060m, but will always pine for a 5512 or 13. This one would be great for me, as I was signing up for the Submarine Service in 1977! For me, that might be better than a birth year Submariner!

Can’t wait to see some “incoming” shots on your wrist!

Michael
