Looking to upgrade my Datejust to a Sub Two Tone Bluesy. Thoughts on dealing with Bob's Watches, I will trade my Datejust, and also will buy used. Is there a model year that is better than another? Thanks!

‘Better’ is subjective & a truly personal choice.

To me the 6 digit ceramics are ‘better’ but to many 4 & 5 digit pre ceramic references are what they prefer.

There is no right or wrong answer it’s whatever you like

Personally I like the ceramic 6 digit subs far more than the 5 digit due to the move to the ceramic bezel and the glidelock bracelet.

The newer ceramic bezels can handle more daily abuse while looking flawless. That said, hard impacts will shatter the ceramic bezels, whereas it would just dent the metal bezel. Lots of people like the 5 digit bezel because it is much cheaper to simply replace every 5 years with heavy wear vs if you happen to break a ceramic. Personally, I have had good enough wrist presence so far as to have never broken a ceramic bezel and appreciate how it always looks brand new.

The glidelock on the 6 digit models is also a huge improvement in my mind. Your watch can now fit essentially perfectly. I find this important for daily use myself

Bob's watches will low ball you - especially on a DJ, you may end up keeping it. Maybe as a trade in, it may be better, not sure how much play they have on their end on the bluesy you are looking at..

As for the Bluesy, I love my 2005 5 digit, other than hairline scratches, it still looks almost new. i did try on the 6 digit though, it feels more substantial, bigger but I felt the dial on mine was much nicer for some reason. Good luck!

I agree it is subjective...but if the OP finds a 4 digit Bluesy he should run away from it.

It's up to you, I would suggest trying both the pre and post ceramic for size/fit.

For me I prefer the smaller lugs (pre sub), I find it more elegant and way less bulky.

I hear good things about Bobs however, David SW would be the only one I use. Him and his team are a class act 100%.

A few weeks ago I ordered a Sub no date with a few plastics still on it, brand new unworn at 5:43pm and it was on my wrist at 9:20 the next morning. Watch was wound and set and shipped FedEx priority over night from Miami. Nothing short of unbelievable.

For what it's worth.

You may be able to find it a little cheaper but what's piece of mind worth...

+1. David and his team are top-notch. No more expensive than Bob's. In fact, watch your back with Bob's on their pricing. They are honest to be sure, but expensive.

6 digit pre 2013. Flat blue dial is interesting and a refreshing change..

The earlier ones had lug holes, no SEL and no gold on the clasp!
Later ones had SEL and gold through the clasp.
The last ones also had engraved rehault!

Don’t see too many about - like you say interesting piece, although I must admit the sunburst blue version is quite mesmerising

I think the six digit model with the wider lugs, sunburst dial and ceramic bezel is better. But that's just my opinion. I can't tell you what you like.

Likely a dumb question, but I’ve always been curious if a watch should be wound or stopped prior to shipping...

I like my Y serial TT Blue more than others because it has a less common "SWISS" only dial.

I think Bob & Co. are reputable, but like any dealer (including David) they are going to give you wholesale (or less) on the trade and charge retail (or better) on the sale. It wouldn't hurt to get some competing offers.

As for the year, unless you prefer the flat blue to the sunburst, generally speaking you're better off getting the latest (newest) one that you can find.
