Would you trade a 14060m for a 16600

Would you trade a 2003 F series 14060m for a similar year 16600 sea dweller? It seems the prices pre-owned are relatively on par.

The main reason I am contemplating this trade is that I want the date function and hate the cyclops. (Otherwise I would just get a sub date)

The 14060m wins out on balance and would likely be easier to sell in the future since it’s generally more popular. The 16600 has the date and better depth rating but I hear it can feel top heavy.

I would be interested in opinions from people who have owned both. Also, I am the original owner of my 14060m. It’s unpolished and has everything that came with it since day one (including tissue paper, plastic bezel cover, you get the idea......). I would be looking for a full kit 16600 but would assume it would likely have been polished during a service. Assuming a private party trade is there a view that either side would likely need to add cash.

Find somewhere to try on the 16600- by all means don’t do it sight unseen. You need to feel that piece on your wrist before making an informed decision.

I’d think hard about letting go of an unpolished 14060M if I were the original owner. What about adding a different piece with a date function instead? You might be pleasantly surprised with a modern Tudor.

I just bought a 14060M and considered a 16600 also. They are basically same price wherever you look. I much preferred the look of the 2-line no date than the 4-line date. If 16600 was 2 line I would have gone with it.

I would as well if you are looking for the date function and no cyclops. I love the fact that it does not have one, it makes it look more even and well rounded in my opinion.

I have not owned a 14060, but have a couple of other watches, and feel that the 16600 is very comfortable overall in comparison to the others I own. I really do not tend to notice the weight really either, in my opinion or is not that huge a difference that it’s really noticeable. My wrist bone is kind of high, and the slight extra bulge I feel makes it more comfortable actually.

I just bought my 16600 a few months back, it did take me a while to find one with the full kit though as I was looking for an early 2000s luminova dial with the full kit. Oddly enough they seem to get separated more than other models from when I was looking.

To find one that is unpolished or very lightly polished is still doable. With the full kit as well I think you would end up having to pay up some on your end value wise, nothing crazy, but an example like that would likely demand a bit extra.

I don’t think of them as investments, but this is a model that I feel personally will increase more in value over time. They are just such a cool watch with an awesome history.

It's a no brainer, go with the 16600. First and foremost, it has the setup which you want, date with no cyclops. But, as a sports divers go, it has functions which 99.9% of Rolex owners don't need - better WR and HEV. And that's the reason I like it. It's far less likely that you'll run into one 'in the wild', which cannot be said of 14060. When those two models sold side by side, majority of Rolex customers have gone for the Sub. Looks identical, cost less and "who the Hell needs 1220m of WR". So yea, 16600 all day, and day!

I'd advise try in the 16600, make sure you like the feel of the thicker case. I sold mine this year because I didn't like how unbalanced the watch felt being so top heavy and all.

I have owned both and would chose the 16600 SD. I prefer the Sea Dwellers proportions over the Submariner. If you are the original owner of your 14060m think hard before selling it though as you may not be able to get it back. If yours is unpolished I would try and find a full set 16600 in the same condition. I don't think you will regret it though. The 16600 feels like a real diving instrument!

I have done this trade. The 14060 is slim and comfortable. The SD feels more substantial and the balance of the dial looks better to me. No wrong choice really.

The 16600 is my Rolex masterpiece of engineering.

Very, very difficult decision.

I have owned both and echo what others have said. The 16600 is an awesome watch but you need a good fit on the bracelet because the head is noticeably heavier and 3mm thicker than the 14060. The 14060 sits flatter and is slightly more comfortable in my opinion but I still love the SD.

They are both classics and will be collectible in the future so you can't make a bad decision here.

I owned the 14060m from 2009 through last September, when I sold it. I still own my 16600.

While I’d love to own them all, my 14060m was just sitting, not getting wrist time. I don’t miss it and I was pleased to sell it to a guy who is thrilled to rock it daily.

I’d recommend trying on the 16600 if you can - it’s 15mm thick, with a deep, rounded caseback, as opposed to the 12mm flatter caseback on the 14060m. For me, the 16600 sits extremely comfortably on my ~7 inch wrist, but YMMV.

I prefer the date function sans cyclops and the SD delivers on that front. I really enjoy wearing the 16600.

My all-time favorite watch is my SD4K (and I have SD43 and 16660 as well), so I’m a big proponent of the Sea-Dweller line generally.

I own both. If you are the first owner of your 14060, i advise you to keep it. 16600 is a different watch. Holding in the hand, it looks better and it feels like a better tool watch. However, its different on the wrist. Depending on the wrist type, its not comfortable like the Sub. Sits high, feels heavy.
You should keep the 14060 and buy a 16600. The second hand prices are better than the Sub and you can sell it back if you dont like it.

Sea Dweller would be my choice. Still have a relatively symmetrical layout due to the lack of a cyclopes. But you also get the date.

Since you said "I am the original owner of my 14060m". That supersedes all else in my book. That is coming from an original owner of a 16600 with an interest in the 14060m.

Conclusion, I can only recommend the 16600 but keep your 14060m no matter what.

Rather than start a new thread I thought I would add to this one (hope you don’t mind OP) and ask if anyone can help me with the dimensions of each piece please? I have had the 16600 since 1994 (bought new so first/only owner) and have become interested in adding a 2 line 14060M but have been trying to find a comparison of the dimensions of the dials, bezel widths and height before I start properly searching. Thanks in advance.

My 16600 is one of the most comfortable watches I have worn. I see some people saying it is top heavy... I personally don't find that to be true. From the first time I put it on, it felt right. I can only recommend it.
