Caught between a rock and a hard place looking for a genuine 16710

Ok..

Having decided the 16710 with Tritium dial is my next collectable Rolex, would it be fair to say it is near on impossible to be confident you have a watch that hasn't been bastardised, frankened or "service" dialed or hands or bezel swapped out etc unless you get it with box and papers?

And even then?

Because how do you buy a 16710 Tritium dial without box and papers, and take it to a RSC to get it verified.... (and a genuine verification card issued by Rolex) if the RSC will simply take your watch away and swap out the tritium dial on you without your consent?

In other words why won't Rolex simply look at your watch for you.. and issue a verification card (if that's all you want and pay for) and give you your watch back untouched?

Why can't a RSC do that?

Of course they are out there! Sounds like someone needs to spend some more time beating the bushes for his dream watch.

RSC are not in the business of issuing authenticity cards, that is not their function. They are the part of Rolex that services and repairs watches. However, they also do not take away your watch and swap out the dial without your consent. I don't know where these crazy ideas come from. Just study the reference yourself so you can recognize an authentic watch.

I would of thought you can still buy the new watch you crave and when the time comes you take it to a recommended watch repairer,we still have some good ones here in Australia

Sure but they can't issue a Rolex Guarantee card right? And it's common knowledge that that is as good as then having a watch with no papers... so why don't Rolex RSC's offer this simple service?

What a nightmare that would be for Rolex. Could you imagine dealing with some of us looking to verify every little screw and bit?

Because in a nutshell it is not a 'simple service'.

For them to guarantee a watch is genuine they need to disassemble the whole thing and inspect every part. A watch with just one fake component/part is no longer a 100% authentic product. So Rolex will not call it such.

A tip, this book will help you to skip a lot of non-orginal 16710’s Not cheap, but Very informative.

If looking for a "collectable" version of the 16710, I would be more interested in a version with luminova dial and SEL/lug holed case.
Box and papers would be a must have. Of course there is still no guarantee that everything is original but your chances are better with a newer non-tritium model..

Mine is for wearing, not collecting. I'm not even sure what the kind of lume it has, but I don't care. I just like it.

it'a a superluminova from early 2000s since your dial is "swiss made"
