Open warranty card from Grey dealer?
Hello friends,
I am exploring a BNIB Rolex from a reputed grey seller. They have mentioned that warranty card is “open.” What does it mean? Grey dealer is saying that I can put my name, current date/month and then warranty will be all good, since the card is stamped by AD. So I want to get opinion on this. Is it such a thing. Will Rolex accept this warranty if we manually put our name, date etc on the warranty card from a grey dealer. Thank you for reviewing this post. Regards |

Lots of times Grey dealers will get a warranty card that’s dated but does not have a name on it. I’ve only bought one watch from a Grey but didn’t have a date on it. However that watch was so old anyway it didn’t matter. All the other ones had a date on the card from when the Grey bought it from the AD. I’m sure that’s what they mean.

No name and probably not swiped when initially bought from an AD by the seller.
This can void your warranty, good thing is you can write your own name on it. Who cares about warranty for a Rolex anyway. I have 8 in my household and never needed any work done. A regulation is very cheap and even in the most unlikely situation whereby a full service is needed this will not set you back more than 1K.

Agree whole heartedly with Padi —
Depending completely on the seller. I would submit if it’s one of the ‘top’ TS here on the forum - you wouldn’t have to worry about the warranty. Also - as stated above - actually having to USE the warranty is really pretty rare. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Ideally you want everything stamped and not hand written.
No name is fine but not dated I would think thrice. |

No date stamped would mean the card was never activated and subsequently the watch has no warranty with Rolex. Even though the chances for using the warranty in a brand new Rolex are scarce, having it is a plus.

A warranty would start when an AD reports it sold, now days that is electronically. The date that an AD puts on the card is simply a reminder to you to start counting with. You have never been able to hold onto a blank card and just add in a date when you decide to, or when you want some free work done. True Grey Market watches do not come with a valid warranty, just like all other Grey Market imports.

Two things:
There is a difference between a Used Watch seller/Reseller and a Gray Market dealer. One sell pre-owned watches with activated warranties, the other sells watches with no warranty from the brand. You can't write any date you wish on a warranty card and have that be the warranty start date. Those cards are activated when sold from an AD, if it is not then the warranty is not valid. Customer names can be written in because you may ask to have it left blank so you can gift. RSC will want to see the AD stamp as well for warranty work on the card. |
