When Dominos opened in the UK, the story was that for each restaurant opened, the first time weekly sales hit $15k, the shop manager receives a Rolex watch.
As mentioned, those targets may have gone up with inflation: I don't mind, I got mine in 1995 (with my initials on the back) .
Hardly wear it, but when I do, beats any other Rolex watch for looks and the story behind it.

Thanks for sharing. I've only seen the one with the logo on the dial. Never knew they put it on the bracelet.

How to spot a fake Dominos Rolex?

Anyone know how to spot a fake Domino's Air-King?

Im looking to buy one of the big square dominos logo without papers. I noticed that the little ® is to the right of the logo rather than underneath as shown in the OP. Also the white domino imprint seems too perfectly centered and has clean edges compared to the slightly off-centered imperfect edges as shown in the OP.

Any knowledge in how to spot a fake is greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Well afaik they should all have the Domino's logo engraved on the caseback too. I wouldn't necessarily expect perfection or absolute consistency with the printing

I've had my eye on these when I see them for sale. I haven't pulled the trigger but this thread is making me want to do so. These are so cool to me .

It is my experience these little air kings were never that desirable up until recently, and I would still question how desirable they really are now.

Have there been regular air kings fitted with domino's dials? I would think so, as there have been domino's air kings that have received regular dials or even re-dials, but fakes haven't been made, there simply isn't that big of market for them.

Wow! I didn't think this would be a thread I'd read on my first day on the forum.

So, I'm a Domino's franchisee in the UK and this thread has brought back a lot of memories.

We've been blessed to win over 120 Air Kings over the past 20 years and I've just posted in the welcome forum that my most sentimental watch is the Air King I won as a store manager.

The original story is something that we hold very close to our hearts in Domino's. For those that don't know:

The chain’s founder, Tom Monaghan, gave his highest-earning franchise owner the watch right off his wrist. In his 1986 autobiography, Pizza Tiger, Monaghan wrote, “I wore a Bulova with our Domino’s logo on its face. A franchisee asked what he had to do to get that watch from me, and I told him, ‘Turn in a twenty-thousand-dollar sales week.’ He did it.”

Since then, managers have tried to break a sales barrier record (for 4 consecutive weeks) to hit a different Rolex "level", with the reward being an Air King Domino's Rolex Watch.

Every single watch that our franchise has won has been given to the store managers and it's something we are very proud of.

I did feel like the ultimate king one day when I walked out of an awards ceremony in Vegas with 20 of them about a decade ago.

My Grandad wore my Air King from the day I won it, to the day he passed in 2015. It's something I'll always hold close to my heart.

This forum is great and thanks for being so welcoming

Amazing! I had no idea they were awarded this way. Do they still do it like this, like an annual ceremony, or do they just give them to the stores directly? Thanks for sharing your story!

Hey,

So we were actually meant to be receiving rolexes/awards tomorrow in Las Vegas but obviously it was all cancelled.

Yes, they are still handed out at ceremonies but sometimes country by country (or state by state).

We actually give ours out to our managers out of our internal awards ceremonies.

I've had lots of friends commenting on them before but I've never seen other members of the public's thoughts. This thread has been really insightful!

Crazy collaboration between Domino's and Rolex. The story behind is heartwarming too.

In this thread we've seen papers/cards marked Schlanderer & Sons Jewelry, an Ann Arbor, Michigan store. Maybe all the Dominoes logo watches are ordered thru that store ?

Domino's headquarters is in Ann Arbor so that seems plausible

Rolex website reveals 11 Michigan AD's, however Schlanderer & Sons Jewelry, Ann Arbor is not one of them. Maybe the store is a former AD rather than a current one.

Wow, great thread! I've wanted to get corp watches made to celebrate exits, etc... but we aren't anywhere near big enough for Rolex or other large brands :(

Really cool. Air King’s are certainly on the small side, kinda like a Dominos pizza!

It depends and if you have small to medium wrist size, the AK 34mm can be good size and does not appear too small on the wrist.

Yep, definitely wasn’t a knock on the watch, more on the Dominos “Large” pizza!

Just saw that Awad Watches listed an interesting "small square" circa 1994 with this clasp:

And a caseback with "$20,006 11-6-94" engraved instead of the usual logo:

Awad Watches also claims this "Double Domino's" is original. It is from 2003 which does put it right around the time the logo transitioned from the dial to the bracelet. Interesting if this is in fact original:

Great post. I love the Domino's Rolex watches. There are a lot of folks that hate the watch because it "supposedly" demeans the Rolex brand to have a pizza chain on the watch. But a person has to be a success in life/work to afford a Rolex. These Domino's watches are the embodiment of success as the person that won one had to be a good enough manager to pull in a certain amount of sales for 4 or 5 consecutive weeks to get one.

I think your post is very informative. There is a slight error. The 114200 Air-King was given out as a Domino's watch until it was discontinued in 2014. The 2007-2012 114200 had the full Domino's logo on the case back and bracelet. The 2013-2014 Air-King had the logo you call simplified on it. That simplified logo was phased in in mid 2012 as Dominos dropped the pizza part to call themselves Domino's so they could sell other things besides pizza (like subs). Once the Air-King got retired at the end of 2014 the OP 36 got to be the sole Domino's watch.

I just got my Domino's OP36 last week. I love the watch and it wears nice

That makes sense; thanks for the clarification!

So the "simplified logo" 114200 should say "2012-2014" instead of "2008-2011" like it does currently.

these things used to sell for $1000-1500 and noone wanted them. interesting watches, but considering you can get a 5500 for $2k and the last 5500 dominoes dial went for $5k, I think they're a bit overpriced. I remember passing on one when I was buying my first rolex, went with a manual wind non domino dial instead, didn't appreciate nearly as much lol

Rob, powerfunk, thank you so much for putting this together! I'm a former awardee as a store manager of a 5500 series Domino's Air-King in 1988. At that time, the award was based on a $20k sales week. In perspective, only 30+/- reached those levels. And that was 1988 dollars. A few additions to your information. The 1980s 5500s did not have a Domino's Pizza logo on the backplate. Only the awardee's 3 initials and Monohans initials, TSM, on the bottom. I still have my box and all the papers. The warranty card from Schanderer & Sons is listed, but NOT Dominos under Purchaser.

Mine was stolen in a burglary in 2005. I'm now on a search to replace it with a 5500 series.

That's interesting to know that not all Domino's Rolexes have "Domino's" on the warranty or caseback; I appreciate the info. And again good luck on your hunt
