5110g VS 1815 Chronograph

Which would you choose as your daily dress watch and why?

- Patek Phillipe World Time 5110g

- A Lange & Sohne 1815 Chronograph 402.026

I would appreciate any advice, and your impressions of it if you own (owned) one. Wearability is especially one aspect I am interested in.

Thank you in advance!!

In this comparison, I’d go 5110. Beautiful dial and classic proportions. I’ve never been fond of that version of the 1815 chrono. If it was a first edition of the 1815 chrono, or the later version with black dial, I’d go with that over the 5110g.

Although I love the newer 1815 chrono, I'd still go with the 1815 here. That movement is just beautiful!

1815 Chrono--no brainer.l--especially with that uncluttered dial. And that caseback view!

I would go with the 1815. The Patek is too busy.

I like both watches, but the 1815 Chronograph is something special and I also think this is the best version of it due to the simplicity of the dial. Unless you really need all the timezones, I think the 1815 is definitely the way to go.

Between both of these, I'd go for the Patek. But if it were between the new 1815 chrono with the pulsation scale and the world timer, it would be the 1815 chrono.

Certainly Mr Dufour likes the caseback view of the watch. He wears a Datograph which has the same caseback view as the 1815 Chrono

Nice article about Dufour with a section on his Datograph and particularly his admiration for the finish and movement architecture.

I prefer the Lange for the cleaner dial.

1815, more likely to use the chrono than the world time. Also, that caseback is in a league of its own.

I vote 1815. And I am a big Patek fan and owner. But I like a clean dial and this Patek is not one.

Thanks for your comment.
I totally agree regarding the classic proportions, as the 5110 fits me perfectly, I like the subtlety of the size. For me, I prefer the cleaner dial of the 2nd gen 1815 Chrono, makes you think it’s a U/D for a second, and then you realize that it’s much more...

Thank you for commenting!
Seems like many of you prefer the later generation of the 1815 Chrono. I love the version as well, but it kind of feels like a completely different watch from the front (same beautiful movement from the back), and the cleaner dial of the 2nd gen works better as a dress watch in my humble opinion.

This is really it, I don’t travel, nor do I time things... I do make international calls, so knowing what time it is in a different time zone at a glance is a plus, but it’s still not like I use the function...

Thank you, and I completely agree. I adore the simplicity of the dial as well. As I don’t travel often and therefore don’t necessarily need time zones, the 1815 may possibly be the way to go.

ALS in this case for me, but I'm currently lusting for a 1815 chrono myself, so clearly biased.

I truly appreciate all your feedback.
After much deliberation, I have decided on the 1815 Chrono!!
I might add a Patek somewhere down the road, but will enjoy this magnificent piece for now!

Fantastic, I really don't think there are too many watches that have a caseback view like that for anywhere near the price.
