Rolex made me buy IWC

Was in Hong Kong airport yesterday. There is a HUGE Rolex boutique in the middle of the damn thing, that you couldn't miss even if you were blind.

Not a single non solid gold model to be had. Not a single customer inside and at least 20 sales reps.

Nothing to sell that customers want, what is the point of the shop? Rent must be astronomical.

I want to buy a blue face 116622 but cannot find one anywhere. I am not a muppet so will not pay > RRP.

I was so frustrated I bought a blue face IWC instead. Damn you Rolex.

Big mistake. Neither in quiality nor in resale value these two brands are comparable. Just speak in terms of my personal experience. Will never commit myself in doing the same!

That store only exists to relieve well-off mainlanders of excess dollars before they head home. :) Wouldn't surprise me if Rolex builds a boutique inside the new Kowloon HS railway station complex for the same reason.

I've seen a few SS sports in ADs windows in the last week. 116622 in Bluewater and explorer in my local just outside London.

Ouch... that is a very harsh consequence of no stock.

When I was there last time, they had no SS DJs or Sports Models. They did have an Explorer though.

Congrats. Which IWC did you go with?

If/when you're willing to step outside of Rolex, there are so many beautiful watches out there...and you can actually buy one w/o "playing the game".

It's because they have sold out, not because they have not been given any supply. It looks optically terrible but things have never been better for Rolex ADs, altho they are way over staffed in this wait list market.

Did you even want the IWC? Consider it money well spent? Satisfy your desire for a SS Rolex?

IWC make excellent, well regarded watches, many wirh stellar in-house movements. Unfortunately, this will likely just turn into another thread on Rolex value retention as that is, apparently, the only consideration when choosing a watch these days...
Congrats OP, do post a picture when you get a chance.

Does it matter the reason if you can’t get what you want ?

Absolutely There are plenty of other quality brands out there. After 25 years of loyalty to a brand that now advertises watches that one cannot buy, it's time to move on.... I'm done with Rolex

Too many people absolutely have no idea on what other brands can offer. IWC are beautiful watches.

Time to take of your rose colored Rolex glasses - after owning heaps of Rolex's they are not THAT special. Come one seriously. Many many other brands that offer the same, equivalent or much better horological timepieces than a Rolex.

Spot on. Way way too many people like this these days especially on TRF. Go out and experience some other brands for gods sake. Heaps of awesome ones out there.

Well if the IWC is a watch you've always wanted then that's great. If you've literally bought it as a rash purchase without thinking it through you might regret that. I'm not so sure you can blame Rolex though.
