For Sale: Rare Rolex GMT Master 1675

Watch is from 1978. Serial Number 5.8.

PLEASE NOTE: Watch has an aftermarket dial, hands and bezel insert. Crystal has a scratch which is noticeable when you turn the watch to its side and stare deeply. Case and movement are original and correspond to 1675.

History of the watch: I purchased the watch recently from a friend. He purchased the watch about 3 years ago from a reputable jewelry store in Miami, where the watch was serviced at the time.

Watch band number: 78360.

This is officially classified as a 'fake' in circumstances where there are non-genuine dial/bezel.

It makes no difference that you disclose those 'fake' components, it taints the entire watch and these type of watches are not permitted to be sold on this website.

Highly suspect beyond the dial, hands and bezel. Crystal/cyclops is not OEM. Machining throughout poor. Overpolished clasp.

It is also very suspect that the bracelet is grossly over polished and stretched but the crown guards on the case are perfect and fat. run, run, run as fast as you can!!!! And I hate the word "aftermarket". If it has a branded logo on it then it is FAKE

I will remove the watch from the forum. I was not aware of the rule that excludes watches if it contains an aftermarket part. There was no intentional malice on my post as everything that I know about the watch was disclosed. As for aftermarket, the definition is clear: Secondary market or replacement parts.

It is a slippery slope.
The issue is that the dial has the crown, thus is not authentic, then it is no good. Counterfeit.

My view is if any aftermarket cosmetic part is branded as Rolex then it is fake or counterfeit, no mincing with replica, homage or similar terms.

Whilst fitting an unbranded bracelet or diamond encrusted bezel is somewhat tasteless there is nothing for anyone to get too worked up over such decisions, providing that there is no element of deception involved, eg; passing the watch off as 100% original.

As far as straps are concerned the Rolex branded croc straps are not of the same quality as the higher end specialist strapmakers.

Sorry, your definition is lacking a bit.

A "secondary market" and/or "replacement part" can be genuine (thus, not necessarily "aftermarket").
For example: You could have purchased a genuine, used, Rolex GMT dial and installed it in the watch (instead of that counterfeit junk).
In that instance, it would be a "replacement part" purchased on the "secondary market" but not "aftermarket".
In which case you would disclose it as a genuine dial, but not original.

The term "aftermarket" typically refers to part that works/fits with a specific manufacturer's product (either as a direct replacement, or as an "enhancement"), but not produced by that manufacturer.
A legitimate "aftermarket" part will not bear any unauthorized trademarked branding/logos of the company that produces the product in which it is designed to fit. In most cases, a true aftermarket part will bear it's OWN company branding/logo.
For example, companies like RubberB and Everest produce legitimate "aftermarket" straps for Rolex watches, which have their own respective logos printed on the inside (and NO Rolex logos/insignia).

So, as stated previously, if any part bears a Rolex trademarked logo/phrase/model name, and it was not produced or authorized/licensed by Rolex, then it is counterfeit. Full stop. Not "aftermarket" or "homage" or any other creative descriptors.
