These commercials drive me nuts.

Watching CNBC seeing the bloodbath. There was a commercial about mvmt watches. “The really nice watch you want, costs a fraction to make. So we created our own designs.” I looked at the website, total crap. They must be selling some of this crap to afford time on CNBC?

Yeah I see them every now and then and always think “isn’t that how retail works? Are you selling them at cost? No, then your mvmt watch costs a fraction to make too”
Oddly enough my daughter’s pediatrician wears one, whom we saw this am... only one I can recall ever seeing though.

Not my choice of watches, but the founders of MVMT, Jacob and Kramer, are laughing all the way to the bank with the recent purchase of their company by Movado Group for a reported $200m pretax ($100m initial payment and two additional payments totaling $100m). Not bad for starting up in 2013.

We are a very rare breed. Their phrase caught me. “The watch that you want”

The only thing that I want is Platona. I don’t care about anything else.

exactly. I don't see the point of comparison at all.

I'll enjoy my watches, end of story.

I hope MVMT is successful and lures away a metric pantload of potential Rolex buyers. We can't get stainless steel models without waiting a year in some cases. If folks flocked to those junk MVMT watches it might loosen up demand for Rolex watches. :)

You pay an 80% markup for the Rolex name. Steel ain’t that much money to machine and assemble.

I own a Rolex but won’t lie about retail prices and funding a monstrous, albeit, very successful marketing campaign.

They're marketing geniuses. Great for them. You guys also realize that the same is said about Rolex brand as well by other watch guys, right?
