I was warned…
… that Gold is much softer then Stainless Steel and scratches easier. I… I… also have a confession to make. I ordered one of those sticker-protective kits. Now before everyone is aghast, I am only putting it on the clasp. Luckily, that is the only place I have scratched my new Gold watch. I will take it to the AD and have the scratches polished out (again, ONLY on the clasp) and then put on the protective stickers (ONLY ON THE CLASP).
It is actually kind of amazing, these are just from resting my wrist on the desk while working. Do other Gold owners have this same issue? Or am I just heavy-wristed |

It looks like you have a bit of polishing and some careful satin finishing to do. I own a SS sub and have the same issue. I too ordered and put on a protective kit over the clasp and am so glad I did! No regrets whatsoever!
Good luck and wear it in good health! |

Must have a weighty job. Lol.
I sometimes wear a gold Sub when I work on cars and mine doesn't even get that scratched. |

Scratches are no longer visible once the entire surface is scratched. You just need to spend more time wearing (scratching) your watch.

Wow! I would not have thought that you would have sustained such a mishap so quickly on your watch Paul. It is amazing what can happen desk driving versus living a a fighter cockpit. When all is said and done, it is still yours, and you earned those stripes.

Happens to mine too but I don’t mind too much….price to play….I’m also a fan of seeing high end sports cars on the road, running through its gears. Much rather see these pieces of art being used for what they were intended to do. I think if others did the same, we would enjoy it more….seeing a lot more rare watches in the wild.

My Gold GMT is pretty scratched up. Don't have it fixed just yet, wear it for a few months then re-assess. Just remember, in 7 or 8 years you can have it serviced and they will re polish the watch to brand new. The scratches are a huge bummer on a 45k piece of jewelry but its going to happen.

Where do you get protective stickers only for the clasp?

You sure did a number on that clasp.
That may not just buff out.

Wow. So soon, Paul? Meh,.don't worry about it.
After 2 1/2 pristine years, I finally put some scratches on my TT Sub. Happened shortly after I removed a sticker I had on the clasp for heavy duty desk diving. Ended up removing it as it looked a bit messy. Bound to happen sooner or later. |

Wear and enjoy. The swirls will blend eventually.

I use a wrist rest. It's not to protect my clasp but it does that too.

Can’t say I have any clasps that look anything like that. I am careful though and aware after wearing PM for so many years.

Since then I've always put a carefully cut piece of 3m clear tape on the centre section of any PM or TT clasps. By the way Paul, 3M clear protection tape is probably less than $10 for enough to redo the clasp ever day for a year

I'm quite careful but my PCL clasps are a mess on my older watches no matter how hard I try.
I just leave it now and it all blends in. |

I think stickers on the clasp are fine since the clasp is a high impact zone. When it’s applied over the entire watch then I find it takes away the beauty of it because it makes everywhere glossy when it shouldn’t. You should see what a MacBook does to a watch clasp.
I’ve rounded out a few flutes on my fluted bezel with an accidental swipe of my fingernail. PM (in any color) is very soft and requires a high level of situational awareness. |

I’ve been wearing my two tone sub with PCLs daily for over a month now and have a commercial architectural millwork business. I am not strictly an “office guy” and while working with wood, machinery, cabinetry, desk time have had some hairline scratches and other scuffs develop. My AD told me just scratch it intentionally upon leaving the store… then enjoy it and forget about it. I’m a little crazy so of course I’ll hit it with Cape Cod and honestly, still looks like new. The Cape Cod polishing cloths work wonders (within reason). I am aware that each time a little more gold is removed though.

Such is ownership and wear on PM models. I have learned to surrender over the years and just accept it.

Might get a pad to rest your wrist on.
It's just a clasp. The whole damn thing can be replaced in 10 years if you want. Scratch away. I rest easy knowing Rolex still carries bracelets for 4 digit Explorers

This is normal in my experience. From any distance they aren't really visible.

Paul, yours is worse than mine already! As I'm typing this, I realize that my clasp doesn't come anywhere near my desk while my hand is on the keyboard. Maybe that's why I haven't accumulated much clasp wear over the past couple of months. I have plenty of other scratches and dents, but I really don't care.
Try not to sweat it, buddy. It's bound to happen. How are you finding the ownership experience overall?

I don’t baby my gold watches but am not rough on them either but have only had very faint swirls or hairlines but nothing significant or noticeable.
