How much should I pay for this watch

Hey guys my friend is selling me his AP because he lost his job. I don’t know much about AP but I do like the watch the only prob is that it has after market diamonds all over it. So I don’t want to buy it for an outrageous price. I want to be able to buy it and if needed be able to sell it without taking a huge lost. He’s asking $25,000 what should I counter offer?

If he is your "friend", why wouldn't you pay him what he wants? Now as for it being real...….

I don’t want to give away my money. I want to make sure if he can’t pay me back I won’t have an issue reselling it. At a reasonable loss something under 3k since I’ll probably be wearing it. As for authenticity I’m pretty certain it’s real. I would definitely get it checked out at a jeweler before purchase since I don’t know much about Ap. I’m a Rolex guy

25 is a fair price, have it checked, looks okay to me, but cant be too certain by judging with what we have to work with

Your friend is going to have trouble selling it... super customized watches that cannot be reverted back to normal are very difficult to sell and most people who have 25k to spend on a watch aren't sold on bargains unless it's for something they already wanted (i.e. a customized AP)... I wouldn't buy it unless you really want it... don't let the perceived resale value influence you too much because you will be hard pressed to get back anything you were reluctant to spend yourself...

Thank you for the replies. I’ve been super hesitant for these same reasons. I’ve been saving to actually buy a Rolex presidential 40mm but I figured I could help a friend out and worst case wear this untill I get my money back. We agreed on $22k and I feel comfortable if he doesn’t come back for it hoping I could get at lease $20k worst case

It looks like a Canal Street Liberace disaster.

Unless you are a Grillz wearing rap star...... three-fiddy is all it’s worth.

Does your friend have box and papers for the watch? Who did the aftermarket work? Any proof?
Your money, but I’d do more research.

25 is fair make sure this isnt lab grown diamonds in that watch. 25 is cheap. It cost about 32 to build.

Take it to get appraised. That way, you and your friend have a baseline.

Are you buying it or letting him pawn it to you? You’ve said two different things.

Dude, $75 at any mom & pop jewelry store will give you an appraisal. Hell, they'll at least be able to tell you if all that garbage is real.

I wouldn’t buy it period. If you want to drop 25k on a diamond AP, you can likely do that in the coming weeks or now, with a reputable dealer. I wouldn’t pay him even half of what it’s worth with an appraisal from someone very reputable. If it’s worth 30, you should offer him 12-15 and see how badly he want to get rid of it.
