Please be careful and on the lookout I just got scammed

Please be on the lookout for my explorer 1. Traded with a guy in Bremen Germany goes by the name of Mario Wo. He received my watch and disappeared. He is now using it as trade bait mostly in Facebook Rolex groups. He also uses a no date ceramic bezel sub as bait.

Im trying to add photos. My explorer was sent plus cash for a 2018 sub no date. This piece of trash received my watch and disappeared. Multing facebook groups have been trying to help find him. I have pics to add but for some reason they are too big to attach. We sent our watches while using facetime, he must have slipped a different box.

Any chance the address you sent it too could be given to local postal or Law Enforcement Officials? Both of which are admittingly long shots but maybe. Sorry to hear about this man....like to think there's a special place in hell for people like this. :(

Did you ship it to an address or PO box?

Wow - man, I have never heard of anything like this before - shipping using facetime? How does that even work?

I really hope you get a good outcome OP.

Mario Wo, Bremen Germany brings up no match except for this thread.

Can you share how you vetted him?
Things like reputation on other sales boards, etc.

I posted in Rolex group in Facebook, he reached out with pics of Sub to trade. Gave me the guys name who originally sold the sub to the guy he got it from. Turns out he scammed the Sub from a young guy who I just spoke to he is fuming, also waiting o. A watch in return thats never coming.

Russ use Tapatalk to post up some pics.
What’s the serial number?
What’s the reference number?
Any marks or scratches on the watch?
Contact details of the buyer?

You need to provide more information than you have done so far.

Of all the Subs to trade in the US, why did you send your Exp 1 to Germany? Man, I hope you get an outcome but Europe is just coming out of lockdown, people won’t have time/care for a missing Rolex from America.

Good luck Russ. Get PayPal to issue a charge-back refund to you, that part at least will be straightforward.
Sorry to hear...

Sorry to hear. There must be something about Germany, I've noticed a lot of fraudulent eBay listings originating from there also (way below market value, no feedback, ask you to pay outside of ebay, etc)

Sorry for your loss my friend. As others have said, get as much info about the watch as well as the scammer on the site and I hope it will find its way to you. Also, call Rolex and report the watch as stolen, there is a chance it will come back to you if it is brought to Rolex for service. Best of luck to you.

Sorry to hear this happened to you. I agree that you should make a police report and notify rolex.

Yep people use FF to get around the service charge, but I think that also removes a lot of the protection.

Sorry man. Trading is so high risk, esp someone in a foreign country.

Paypal always gets their money. With "normal" transfer, say for buying a watch, the buyer (sender) typically pays the fee, even if that fee is deducted at the end from the seller's account. That's why some sellers have an asking price for cash or direct wire, and then say "I also accept PP plus fees" which means you will pay a bit more via this option.

With FF transfer, the seller (receiver) pays the fee. As mentioned, this service is not linked to any goods or services, meaning you acknowledge that you are not getting anything in return for the money you are sending. Therefore, you do not have Paypal's buyer protection with FF.

BUT FF is not particularly safe for honest sellers either: If you have a CC connected to your PP and pay through that, even via FF, you can then reach out to your bank (not paypal) and ask for a charge-back because of fraudulent transaction!

So, neither the buyer nor the seller are particularly protected with FF, if one of them is an @sshole! Bottom line, guys: there is a reason this service is called "Friends and Family". (~ "I know you and I trust you")

To the OP, I am sorry about your troubles. Hope you can rectify some of your loss.

For future PP purchases rather than send it FF, send the amount plus 3% that way you’re still covered and the recipient doesn’t lose the fees.

Not sure if this info helps you at all but all parcels coming into Germany incur a 19% VAT on the declared value of the item. If you declared full value on the shipping document then your Explorer has started a paper trail in Germany because he would have had to pay approx. 1000 euros just to get the watch out of customs.
