I believe you will likely find the scammer sent it from a fake email addy. One that poses as your AD by a deceptively crafted similar email addy.

TempMail and GuerillaMail are two such generators.

Now onto the security issue for you - in other words, how did the scammer associate you with the AD?

S/he may have pierced your email contacts. (Do you have your AD’s legitimate email addy saved to your contacts?) It May be best to change your email and/or PC passwords if you don’t already have 2-factor authentication enabled.

S/he may have pierced your AD’s email contacts. (Do they have your email addy saved to their distribution list or waitlist?) At this point you may want to forward a copy of the fake email to your AD to alert them of the scammer posing as them. This would just be a courtesy since anyone falling for the ruse would squawk on Yelp or other platforms. Such scams can hurt a stores reputation.

Agreed it is more likely that it was just a broader phishing con Originating from the AP himself getting hacked rather than the ADs customer database. Those type of email cons are usually fairly easy to figure out if you look at the header of the e-mail and realize it's not coming from who you think it is. Also, there is usually other indicators such as sloppy formatting of the E mail, misspellings, etc. Like any confidence game, electronics or otherwise, they feed off our natural greed instinct, which cause us to let our guard down. In this case the OP was smart enough to figure out his initial poor reaction. Even if he had fallen for it, nothing to be really ashamed of, this can happens to the best of us.

Thanks again OP for posting all this, it is a good cautionary tale.
