Help with Rolex Serial #

Hey guys, im being offered a Rolex 116610 and I need some help with the serial number details because if I run the number, it says it was made in 1995 which is impossible. It is definitely a 116610.

x = number placeholder

The serial numbers from 1995 are Wxxxxx1
The serial on this watch is WxxxxxA1

Since rolex is using random serials on the 116610's, could this piece having a W serial number make it seem like its from 1995 when in fact its from 2012? The seller is saying that the serial having the second letter in it means it is not from 1995 because serials from that year only had the W, not a second letter.

When I type it into a serial lookup, it says its from 1995, not 2012. Everything else with this piece is checking out, it even has the serial # engraved on the flange between the face and crystal so im trying to figure this out.

Thanks for the help!

Random serial numbers since quite some time (2010 or so)

It means what it says; random.
Nobody but Rolex knows.

Any serial with eight characters in it is a random serial.

Thanks for the replies guys. So since the serial # has the second letter in it, that definitely means it is not from 1995 correct?

No.. The fact that it is a post 2010 model, and has 8 characters in the serial, means that it is not from 1995.

Random means random - not that there is a second letter someplace.

QUESTION:
My Sky-Dweller has a serial number 0J609xxx on the rehaut.
Is there any differentiation between a 'zero' and a letter character 'O' for Rolex serial numbering?
Both '0' are the same size and width.
Does my serial number contain two "zero's" of two "O" 's or could it be a mix?
I guess it is not all that important, but it annoys me.

(Should I go ahead and throw out the watch?) :-)
