UK stores price goods inclusive of tax. Your American stores price goods then add tax at the till. So, in the uk the price you see on the ticket is the price you pay at the till. It includes the tax.

At the airport, goods are sold tax (VAT) free.

The MSRP (inclusive of 20% VAT) of the Sub date is £6,250. This is what you would hand over to an AD in Britain, if they had one and if they deemed you worthy to sell to!

The Heathrow price (if you’re lucky to find it in stock, like the OP was) is therefore £5,208.

The difference of £1,042 is the VAT that you don’t have to pay at Heathrow. It is 20% of £5,208.

However, this is not a 20% discount. It is a 16.6% ‘discount’, as £1,042 is 16.6% of £6,250.

To illustrate further for our American friends, the £5,208 paid is approximately $7,000 in USD. That’s all in, no hidden extras to pay.

I believe this still represents a solid deal for you guys considering the likes of DavidSW advertise them for sale at $8,675.

While you're at it ... pardon the amateur question. I looked at the Heathrow duty-free terminal as well and was tempted, but figured my VAT savings and exchange rate savings would be wiped out by the taxes when I declared on entry to the US. What's the tax rate on these things when you import them to the US?
