Why?
Two years ago I had a deposit with a M&W store and on phoning around the provincial AD’s found a SubC with date at a Goldsmith’s, with 2 days notice to collect.
No problem!

One other quick question guys, how's this watch on a skinny wrist? Haven't even been able to try on given the waiting list.

Cheers

The best thing to do is to try it on to find out yourself. Find a brick and mortar grey dealer that has it in stock which you can pop into to try it on.

Hi all.

Got the call this eve. The watch is in store for collecting.

Suffering buyers remorse now. Do I go for it?

What's people's views on the watch?

Thanks in advance for any advice

FWIW, a well regarded watch service shop owner in LA told me last week the movement in vintage Rolex 5513 are superior to the movement in the modern Submariner no-date (based on repairs his shop does on these watches). He didn't get specific about the repairs, and I didn't ask.

So, you might consider a vintage watch instead.

Hi

Yeah winsor bishop. Paid 500 deposit.

Came in sooner than expected. Excited but oddly nervous, had the cash sitting there for a while now.

Did you get one in the end? Or put off by the wait?

This is why ADs should take non returnable deposits for joining lists (not that they ever will). People who aren’t serious join lists then panic when they get the call.

Anyhoo, I LOVE my newly collected 114060 and I’d thoroughly recommend it. It’s a perfect one watch, and also great added to a collection :)

I’d recommend putting your name on a list, but certainly do not give a deposit.

I did this for my 116500 and my AD had it in a touch over 60 days..... just follow up with your contact monthly to check in

The lady said they wanted £1000 deposit!!, I have a Lvc, do like the no date, but would like to add the sea dweller next, or even the deepsea blue

Worth the deposit I’d say. The deposit will scare many off so you should be joining a properly qualified list

Get it bought! Looking forward to seeing your incoming thread.

Then, next week, the inevitable “I’ve got the bug” thread as you decide between a BLNR and a Daytona for your next addition :)

How long did you wait? I’m waiting for an LV but I told my AD I’d have a ND in April if the LV was still no where to be seen (been waiting over a year now)

114060 took around 6 months and I was offered a few date models along the way. I’d had the date before but much prefer the 114060.

I walked into my local AD, Michael Spiers (Plymouth, Devon) on Sunday afternoon. Asked if they had any SS sports Rolex as I was mainly interested in BLNR, Sub ND and Explorer 1. He asked me some questions about my interest in watches and where I lived. Only then after I had been vetted as a local watch enthusiast did he let on that they had an Explorer 1 come in yesterday. I didn’t like the proportions when I saw it in the flesh (prefer the 36mm). Only then did he let on that he had a Sub ND (we had been getting on well and having a laugh). I bought it. Michael Spiers don’t do waiting lists. So based on my experience, visit the ADs in person, strike up a rapport. This one anyway, only wanted to sell to local people that really loved their watches.

Fair play to them - if every AD had that attitude, we wouldn't be in this crazy situation.

What do you mean by be careful of the Aurum group? I’m considering putting my name on the list with a Goldsniths right now.

Good advice from other posters. If you’re not in a rush, then just wait it out. But you may want to call other dealers nearby - Cambs, Peterborough, Chelmsford, Milton Keynes etc. or popping in if you’re ever out that way - being careful about the Aurum dealers.

Unfortunately ADs are loathe to serve customers who only want SS models - it’s the way of the times and your experience unfortunately isn’t unique. not quite the luxury retail experience you want. 12 months was likely a bit of caution and a bit of a deterrent, but is probably directionally correct.
