Running the numbers Part II: 5513, 14060 or 114060?

Looking for a new daily wearer to retire my 1987 5513 to special occasions. By daily wearer I mean wearer not beater. I am careful with all my watches, even my $19.99 Casio.

A while back I posted a running the numbers thread on a new 24270 v. an 114270 Explorer I.

After looking at several watches and trying on several at my AD, I have decided I really prefer a sub no date.

I have currently narrowed this down to three possible watches (actually, the 5513 Mark IV is beyond my price range but I am still considering it).

1. A complete set year old 114060 with box and papers from a local AD with 4 years left on warranty.

2. A complete set (minus one link) random unpolished 14060 4 line with box and papers from a trusted seller on this site with no service history (same price as #2 above).

3. A 1965 5513 head only with a service Mark 4 dial and service tritium hands with no boxes, papers or bracelet from a trusted seller on this site with no service history (price is 1k more than number 1 or 2). The watch looks great but the case is lacking on bevels (but is priced accordingly).

The trusted sellers are AIS and HQ. And my research on this forum indicates that they are both top tier trusted sellers.

So, apples to apples the 14060 is same as the 114060 but the 14060 has no warranty. The 5513 Mark 4 is a thousand dollars more with no warrant, box, papers or band and of course the case is significantly more worn.

Each of these watches has plusses and minuses. My question is this. If I decide to trade down the road, which will hold the investment better?

Thanks,

A mint/nos 14060M (4 liner w/ rehaut) is my "daily" grail. I'm still searching for one. The prices are only going up on this reference.

The 1 year old 114060 from an AD is the safe choice. There are a ton out there on the grey, you could probably save another $500-$1000 (depending what that AD price is).

I don't think you'll need to use the warranty, but you'll need the papers down the road if you're maximizing a flip.

Here's my vote:
14060M complete set
114060 complete set
5513 head only

If #1 and 2 are the same price and it's going to be your daily watch, I would go with #1 because of the warranty and glidelock. I personally prefer the proportions of the 14060M (why I bought mine) so if you can snag it for less than the 114060, that would be my pick.

Me personally, I would go for the 114060...regardless of the numbers. Good luck,

5-digit = stylish

6-digit = obese

Which would you rather be seen wearing ?

A 6-digit is like a Moped, I would ride it as long as my friends didn't see me.

Option number 2 sounds the most appealing to me for a daily wearer.

Usually under my cuff so hopefully no one sees, but me. But to answer your question, it is a close call between 5513 and 14060. Would depend the occasion.

Probably so. Like the Mark 4 dial a lot more. But a 14060 will probably wear better on a daily basis.

AD price is about same as the gray market on the one I found. And yes, prices are up on the 14060M with B&P.

3 great options.
I went with a 4 line 14060.

Condition is important.

Which will hold value better, 5513, 1460M or 114060?

Appreciate all the responses to my Running the Numbers Part II post, but my question is not the general question as which to get for a daily wearer. It is the more specific question of which will hold its value better over the next few years.

1. 114060 complete set
2. 14060M complete set
3. 5513 Mark IV head only

Why did you choose the 14060 4 liner and are you liking it?

I'd say the 5513 depending on condition and price you pay. Fact that it's head only makes it less of a slam dunk.

14060M has potential as the last of the old style case Subs, especially if it's minty.

114060 is definitely the least likely I'd say because it's current. Best watch for daily wear though, but not best for value holding.

Moped is a little harsh. But I guess apt.

14060 or 114060. Wear both then decide!

Didn't want plexi and don't want fat lugs.

The 14060m will be a watch with a close link to vintage you can beat the snot out of for the rest of your days then hand it down to the next generation to do the same.

5513 or 14060 and I also own a 114060. For me if only one would be a 14060m unless you were talking a meters first 5513. Also yes condition is king so only mint condition for either of them.

The 114060 is best for daily wear. Ceramic bezel and glidelock are great improvements that make it a great daily. Regarding holding value, the 5513 will likely hold better than others. There are too many 14060s and 114060s around and will likely be this way for a long time.

Since you say the 14060M is NOS with a full set I would go with that one holding its value the best if you decide to trade later.

I agree with this. I'm actually looking at the same two references but leaning toward the 4 digit since it will not be a daily wearer.
