I'm not saying convenience is useless but the OP is asking for sub or GMT and IMPO the optical clutter of owning a GMT for the convenience of the occasional travel, when I'm in my local time zone 80% of the time is not worth it over the sub.

Of course if you travel 50% of the time then sure that inconvenience may justify the GMT. Alternative you may simply just like the look of it more than the sub.

That's the beauty of options and opinions :)

To the OP - get what you need. If Sub is a dive watch and the GMT is awesome if you need the GMT function. I have both and use both. If you don't need either, get whatever appeals to you the most.



I do wish the GMT had the Glidelock. I understand why Rolex only puts them on the dive watches, but it's definitely nicer than the easy link on the other oyster bracelets.

It's not an ignorant statement and won't try to state that yours is either. It's my opinion vs yours. You are of use to a GMT cause you travel often whereas I don't as much and when I do I'm glued to my phone anyway.

There are options in your setting to not allow your phone to switch time zones so enjoy what you like mate and let other enjoy what they like and voice their opinion. Cheers

If this relates to latest six digit versions, I would say the Sub, but if going back to the five digit, it would have to be the GMT.....amazing watch!

couldnt choose one over the other so I got the GMT first closely followed by the sub no date. Love em both equally, lol!!

When I travel I set my watch to the local time and I check my iPhone to see the time back home - that's if I can't do simple math like subtracting or adding. I'm not a pilot who is in a different time zone every week to keep track - so yes it pretty much useless. And that's my opinion of course.

But sure if you need another hand to tell you that the U.K. Is +5 hours from EST - then that's your decision :).

You're not applying your logic consistently. With a cell phone you don't need a watch at all, let alone a GMT function, yet you're still here recommending a watch.

I use my watch to tell time, and when I travel, that often includes telling time in more than one time zone. I don't want to do mental math, especially when I'm half way around the world and know I'm 13 time zones from home but can't remember which direction to add or subtract, and end up calling my kids a couple hours past their bedtime. Fortunately I don't need to do the math several times a day, because I have a watch that does it for me. My GMT has been very useful in this regard.

Furthermore, I rarely use my phone to tell time, and try to avoid carrying it with me when practical. In fact I don't even turn it on when I'm on vacation.

I get that you don't find a GMT useful, but your original response implied that you don't think anyone one should find it useful, which seemed a little arrogant.

Sure I am, that logic is the passion to own a watch, a mechanical watch and a brand to be proud of yet alone the ability to pass down through generations. Not something you can do with a phone.

The OP asked a simple question, sub or GMT and I gave my answer and my own opinion. I don't understand what the issue is. You have yours and I respect it and get it - just not for me :)

If you travel a lot the GMT is the way to go. Otherwise, the adjustability of the sub is nice to have. So for me personally it's always GMT first, allows me to track my own travels, family members overseas as well as clients. And the sub and GMTc with the LN look to me iconic Rolex if that's any consideration. I'll ove my GMTc LN every day for very occasion...

When comparing SS I think the GMT just edges it as it's a bit more special. Added complication, coloured hand, PCL.....and BLNR sits above them all IMO.

So I'd say GMT but it's a tough choice.

Well the poll is neck and neck so there really isn't a right answer. I wouldn't complain with either of those two watches. I own a subC but would love a BLNR or the Coke GMT when it's released at Basel 2018 (fingers crossed)

There is a difference between saying that something is useless and saying that you don't find it useful. I think that is the issue people had with your statement. You presented it as some sort of fact instead of an opinion.
