Date, I use it all the time. Surprised to see I made the poll an even 50/50 split at 146-146. I expected Date to be ahead by a bit.

I traded a 14060 for a 1680 which is my first vintage watch. I love it, and find the date quite useful. But I keep thinking about trading for a 5513! I voted Sub.

I like both and would like to have both in my collection. So far I have Sub Date and this would be my first choice.

Say no to a date if you're married. Date if you're not.

ALWAYS choose the date model. You will regret it eventually.

How people notice Rolex:
1. Bracelet
2. Cyclops
3. Crown on dial

+1 for date Sub

A few years before that, but once he knew I actually was going to graduate and make something of myself...LOL.

Now, I'm looking for one of my own so I too can pass on the tradition once I have kids and a family.

Both are equally fantastic. You have a choice of either:

The best watch in the world.. ever.

or..

The best watch in the world.. ever.. with date.

What's not amazing?

From a purely aesthetic point of view, no date. However cyclops is classic Rolex and something I use every single day, so date for me!

I’m still surprised by these results. I’m sure there are people with other colored subs voting, who I assume would vote date, which should give date an obvious advantage. I wonder if people just see “Submariner” then see “Date” and assume it says “No” in front of it and end up voting for the wrong Sub.

Surely I can be way off, but based on the amount of photos posted here between the LN, Hulk, Blue/WG, and TTs, I would have expected Sub Date to be well ahead.

My entire Rolex history has been Subs (with no date). My first was a 5513, then a 14060, and now a 114060. I did dabble in Sub Dates for a brief time with a 1680, but it didn’t stick.

Obviously my vote is Sub.

If it is an everyday watch, Sub Date is better. But if it is just one of my watch, I’ll go for Sub.

Every poll I’ve seen on this age-old topic is close, but with the Submariner always being more popular than the Submariner Date. I attribute this to self-selection of TRF members, as we are more of a WIS crowd who tend to gravitate towards the origin/purity of the Submariner.

If we opened this up to general public (non-TRF), the Submariner Date would win in a landslide.

Agreed 100%. I had both. First was because I wanted classic. Traded for date. Much much happier.

The definitive submariner? Well it's gotta be the original sub, so no date.
I agree, I have a 5513, but I also wear a GMT 1675, I'm fortunate as both are very cool watches.
