Daytona SS may work for me.
It’s a grail watch for many.
And if health & wallet permits, any White, Black, meteor dial, in any condition: so long as it’s not broken or overpolished, from any year works for me, if it’s not asking for >50% MSRP, and matter not if it’s missing box or papers.

Only thing bothering me from pulling the trigger is not economy.
Rather it’s my OCD with the unbalanced lugs.

I know it don’t bother most ppl.
But I still can’t accept left & right lugs is not balanced due to pushers displacement.

Just me & my 2cents.
If Rolex fix this, will have no prb paying mart

I see this being one of the 'under the radar' upgrades on the inevitable 126500 Daytona next year.

Like others have said, I’m not a big chrono guy, but if I was to get a Daytona, it would only be this one.

I paid 50.
With today's market at 35-36, i'd pay that too (white dial, new w/ stickers, box, papers)
My guess is 30 is the floor, assuming stocks and crypto continue their spiral, and assuming we don't have a nuclear war. if we do, 30 will no longer be the floor

don't overthink this; you're either a guy that is able and willing to pay resale, or you aren't. if the value swings will affect your enjoyment of the watch, steer clear of resale, and work on a relationship with an AD, and find a new grail piece.
You can get TT or some PM daytona with zero purchase history - i got the one in my avatar as a first ever transaction at an AD in 2021

It really depends. I normally buy CPO cars instead of new, but there are certain cars that are better new because of warranty etc. I certainly don't mind a gently used watch. It doesn't seem to mean it's any cheaper in the Rolex world.

20k for me, although my hesitation from buying a used/grey Daytona would mainly be its authenticity rather than its price.

Msrp. At 20k+ you can already buy high horology time pieces, which Daytona is not

I wouldn't really bother trying for a ceramic Daytona (not the biggest fan) however my bar for a white dial 116520 is around $15k.

If it happens then great, if not I won't lose any sleep.

The spirit of this is exactly what a “luxury” watch purchase is all about. It’s fun money to buy what you really want when you want it. Never bet against the Daytona in its place and desirability in the watch world. It’s why some loath it and many have to own it at any price point. Same holds true in the exotic car market and their mark ups. I am sure some people only see the guy behind the wheel of a GT3RS and think he had to over pay to get that car. Most just see a lucky SOB that is enjoying life.

Good call, and if you are worried about the value…historically the Daytona in particular has always done well. If you get tired of it one day and want to sell, depending how far down the road it is, you may likely get your 50k back.

I bought a white dial one in 2019 for $22k and thought that was alot at the time. Eventually sold it though as I wanted to experience other pieces.

I’ve attained a white dial from an AD this year which is great because i was not going to pay market price for one again.

I'm not going to purchase until I get to see all the 116520 and 116500 dials in person.

For the latter my price is around 25k I think.

I bought once at MSRP and eventually sold it. My Breguet, Omegas, and GS chronos are much nicer and better watches, to me.

That said, if I got called for another I would purchase it at MSRP and flip it. Or sell it at retail to a friend or family member.

I would consider paying current pricing for an 116520 if in great shape. We know Rolex isn't making anymore of those. I own a white dial, so I would consider a black dial addition. I cannot justify a 116500LN at current pricing though, bc I would be worried that Rolex may crank up production late in the model cycle which may concede with a global recession and will start looking like the 116520 in the late 2000's. Since I already own a SS, I'd consider a PM Daytona, but would need to be close to MSRP from my AD. The 4130 powered Daytonas are great watches imo

If the steel Daytona dropped to $25K or under, I think there would be a lot of attractive prices out there in the rest of the watch world. Might draw a prospective buyers attention elsewhere.

What do you think Rolex would include in an update?

I think the 4130 is still one of the top chrono movements out there for under ~$75k watches. Perhaps Rolex moves the case size of the SS/TT/YG bracelet models to match the rest of the line up. Not sure what the model reference would be for that change, perhaps 216500LN?
