Panerai re-aquisition musings...

I hope this doesn't come across as a "help me decide" thread...more like a tell me what's out there request.

I miss my 111. I see three nice Gator deployant straps - a JV, brown & black leather sitting idle...

I don't want another 111, but here are my wants in semi-priority order.

Pre-owned
Lug width same as the 111, so I can use those gator straps (no Radiomir cases)
44mm
Sandwich dial
Seconds hand
Prefer no power reserve on dial

Suggestions on models???

111 is a perfect choice... I'm sure I wouldn't find something to satisfy as well.

Maybe it's titanium equivalent but that would change the look of your strap combinations.

Ps I too am sitting on a few nice panerai straps without a watch to strap them on, been waiting to see if I get bitten again.

I do recall a Titanium version of a 111...but the model escapes me.

176 is also a very nice titanium sandwich dial. No second's hand so a little cleaner. Make sure you like the absence of the weight though. I like the heft of the SS cases.

312 would fit the bill... Plus it has a 1950s case and automatic movement. I just picked up a 233 and although it has the fang power reserve indicator, I feel like it adds lots of character, and I LOVE it.... to the point that I'm insulting people by looking at my watch too much when they speak to me.

It would be hard to do without a seconds hand... Feels like the watch is not "alive" to me if I can't see the constant movement on the dial. 😄

The 510 is similar to the 111 (key difference is the 8-day in-house movement). Also consider the 312, if you like the 1950 case - this has the strap quick-change device.

Hi Clive.

Yes...I've thought a lot about the 312. The strap change feature is a very nice to have. I also like the brushed case and beefy crown guard.

I couldn't recall the 510...but Mr Google helped - after your memory jog. That one does tick many of the boxes. I'm sure they go for much more pre-owned Vs 111's. I like the in house movement.

honestly..you prob get a good deal on the 510 over the 111 as its slowly being phased out...
if you want to invest more..get a preowned 233..that's the ultimate 44mm handwound PAM

There is something oddly satisfying with the 29 as well. If you can see one IRL you'll hopefully see what I mean.

A little more coin, the 82 is nice with the blue dial

or the 172 (not sandwich) but the blue hands and case material might make up for it.

Bottom line, you have Panerai fever, just jump back in. Buy used and you can get back out without much of a hit.

I sold my 111 some time ago.

Musing about getting another PAM according to the criteria in my original post.

The strap change system - resident on the 312 - is a cool feature. Also key is the ability to use some nice OEM Gator straps (from my old 111 - 24mm / I hung on to) on anything I may acquire.

I know you don't want another 111, but it's a super great piece. I've owned many others and came back to it. The 312 is a bit top heavy and I had issues with the movement when I had one. Good luck on your search!

Not a fan of the 8-day meter on the dial of the 233.

I think I am leaning more toward the 312 - brushed case, sammy / simple dial, seconds hand. If it did not have a date, it would be perfect. An in-house manual wind ala 510 has some appeal as well.

Either a PAM or a 36mm Grand Seiko. I know...I am all over the map on the next acquisition. If I had the patience I would save up for an A. Lange & Sohne (my grail) but I do like having variety in my "collection"

I also hate seeing 3 awesome straps sitting idle. Could try to sell them, but I personally have a thing about used straps. Yuck.

55, 61, 118, 116 or the later 176 and 177s will all work nicely in the luminor case :-)

I was in the same position as you a couple of months ago - I had sold my 111 last summer but was missing Panerai. I managed to get a really good deal on the Panerai 320 and I couldn't be happier now!

It has the things I liked about the 111 like the sandwich dial, 44mm case size and the seconds hand, as well as the things I was lusting after like the 1950s case, quick strap change system, automatic movement, three days power reserve (with rear indicator) and GMT complication.

It sits higher on the wrist than the 111 but the added features I've got with this beauty far outweigh that minor point. So if you're thinking of the 312 (which is pretty much the 320 minus the GMT function) I would definitely go for it! :)

Yes. That's probably the used price.

Not a fan of the stock strap. I need a deployment to fit my wrists better. Not sure I'd use the stock distressed strap or tang rubber.

I've been looking at these online...So basically a 111 w/ 8 days text on dial and in-house movement of course.

Man...why couldn't the 510 have the 312's strap change system. One of the things i HATED with my old 111 was taping up lugs / whipping out the screwdriver for every strap change.
