Nice one, Steve — hope it proves irresistable over the long term too.

As some members have mentioned, Hublots are fun pieces to keep around ( I do), as long as you get them pre-owned, and at a substantial discount. I like my APs very much, but my BB Unico Carbon gets a lot of wrist time, specially when I’m playing sports as it is very light.

Hublot's market is not watch nerds. Their customers don't know -- or don't care -- about the resale value. They also don't know or care which brand originated the bezel/case design.

I recently went to the boutique in Vegas cause my coworker really likes them, and I gotta say, checking out all the pieces, it's starting to make me think twice. I've always though of Hublot watches to be for the "bros" but like many said, a lot of them are just fun. Some uses some pretty crazy materials. If I was really into flashy watches, the all sapphire case is pretty damn amazing.

Agreed. Hublot's strength is design and materials execution. Check out their ceramic models. Pretty cool stuff!

They had a deal with Manchester United at one time but I think United have moved to Tag Heuer.

Tag and Hublot are owned by the same group, so likely a move to shore up Tag sales.

I wouldn't say they're hated, probably just less people love them. For the most part, a lot of their watches are on the large and bulky side, and quite flashy, and that style has less of a following in the WIS community. They have some nice watches that are more basic and smaller though too.

Luckily I buy watches I like, not what the masses think has the best resale value.

I have a 42mm classic fusion, base black dial, that I picked up used for a good price, and I like a lot, it's a good style. It wears a little large, but is pretty thin, so it sits comfortably on my 7" wrist. Wears slightly larger than my 41mm APRO. (i have a comparison shot on my Instagram if you're interested)

I’ve never considered hublot ever, and then this showed up. Man; I’m tempted.

^Nice. I’ve always been a big fan of the SOBB. What is the case size?

That’s 42mm. And I am seriously considering it. The tonneau case is really very unique and has something to it.

On the SOBB here: While I am wanting to like Hublot, when I then see their new models with a case shape and a crown like this, I am like, wait a minute, which brand again does this model remind me again?

The whole case/bezel design argument is poor. All watch companies take inspiration or copy each other to an extent. Wrist watches have been around for over 100 years. There is only so much you can innovate before you start “copying” others.

Hublot was the first to mix precious metal with rubber straps. Now all the companies do it and nobody complains. People say that Hublot copies AP with the screws/bezel bolts, yet the RO wasn’t even the first watch to have screws/bezel bolts lol.

Hublot has become popular with sports stars just as AP/PP/RM is popular with rappers. Yea, I’m sure those guys know about watches and care about resale.

The truth is that Hublot is the brand that people love to hate.

Spirit of Big Bang range are the only Hublots I might consider looking into.
That’s a nice looking one.

Mate, I’ll admit I’ve always been the one to look at hublot as homage and didn’t regard them as high enough.

But this SOBB has me drooling all over it now and I’m likely to pull the trigger on this one.

I’ve pretty small wrists ie 6.5” (16.5cm) only yet it wears so elegant.

The new Classic Fusion Ferrari GT is quite nice. Pretty quirky, but in a cool way, imo.

Nice

Though not sure "Hublot" and "elegant" go in the same sentence, at least not for me

Why is Hublot frowned upon?

Yep, this. They were the first ones getting the rose gold on rubber look popularized that now even Rolex produces (of which I have the Daytona version of lol). Hublot is legit. Breitling and many other luxury brands use other movements, resale on every single watch minus Rolex/AP/Patek is the same. Hublot is not for the “Vintage recreation” market, which is tired now anyways. Hublot, Richard Mille and AP are really carving new paths for watch making and I, for one, love it.

Correction: Rolex would fit their own rubber Tropical straps to their sports watches--including precious metal--on request in the 60's and 70's, so Hublot was by no measure the first manufacturer to fit rubber straps to PM watches. Also Omega and Blancpain, others were offering rubber straps on their watches during this period, and AP fit rubber straps and exotic materials on their timepieces before Hublot:

http://forum.tz-uk.com/showthread.ph...)-strap-thread

http://www.primermagazine.com/2016/s...o-watch-straps

https://www.professionalwatches.com/...fifty-fathoms/

Exotic materials: Carbon-wise, AP had full carbon case watches out in 2007, on a rubber strap, well before Hublot brought out their first, which if I'm not mistaken was within the last few years.

And indeed, AP was no stranger to using exotic materials in their watches/cases years before the introduction of the Big Bang in late 2005, as can be seen by reading this:

I think they're largely frowned on by the...."more mature" crowd.

Younger guys love them. Hublot also has massive brand recognition.

Personally I prefer AP, but I get the appeal of Hublot at the same time.

Hublot SoBB is a dope watch. The moonphase joint will be copped at some point.
