Rolex Date... Just because you can?

The first time I ever looked at watches I liked this Rolex Date- back before I had any preconceived ideas about what was acceptable or not in regards to size.

(For those that don’t know it’s 34mm) and my wife ended up picking this watch as her first Rolex.

Now that we have it in the house, I thought about wearing it. I never really considered it a woman’s watch until I spent time on the forum and other sites where opinion is “bigger is always better for a mans watch”

Would you wear the date if you had this as an option?

I see no problem with it whatsoever. If you like it, wear it.

My first Rolex was a TT Date. I didn’t know much about Rolex and I bought it because I wanted a Rolex and it was on sale and the SA was pushing it hard. Now I know why, because it was old stock and was something that was hard to move. I first regretted it because of its size when compared to modern watches. Then I got into vintage a little bit and started wearing it again. It’s actually very comfy and nice once it’s been on the wrist a couple of days. I think it’s all the marketing that gets into our head nothing wrong with 34 mm it’s just a number. As long as it looks good on you and you like how it wears who cares what the trend says.

I think it fits you really good actually.

And yes I would wear it.

I don’t suffer from an inferiority complex.

For the record; when I bought my 36mm Datejust I really wanted a 34mm date

But I wanted to try the Datejust because I’d the super jubilee bracket and all.

Also, the SA told me that 36 is a ladies watch and I should take the DJ41.

I still bought the 36 and love it

I have a 34mm. I wear it as much as I wear my 40mm and 41mm watches. I do however have an affinity for 40-41mm watches because I like the way they look on me and I perceive a greater legibility.

Sex is not a determinant of watch size as there are women who wear 44mm watches and there are men who wear 31mm watches.

Men who believe the size of their watch determines their masculinity may have insecurity issues.

My first and second Rolex were Dates. I actually thought the 36 was too large. My wife wears a DJ36 now.

Sorry, what is “acceptable or not” in terms of sizing? Do you buy watches for the appeasement of others or for yourself? That’s a real shame you can’t wear watches you enjoy because of fear of being deemed a “woman’s” watch.

How quick we forget that men in the past almost exclusively wore <35mm watches. It was in style then and remains so to this day.

My next Rolex will either be a Date 34 or 114060, pending availability and if I like how it wears. FWIW, the new maxi case on the 34s make it wear closer to a vintage 36. I tried on the OP34 a couple weeks back and loved it; I only bought the OP36 because they had the dial I wanted in stock. Nothing more.

My OP 34 blue dial was my very first Rolex back in October. Hadn't been on TRF, thankfully, and fell in love with it. The blue dial sings to me and legibility is excellent.
So this thing about certain sizes for certain wrists is recently made up, to my mind.

As has been said many times on TRF, if you love it, buy it, wear it. (Sorry for the paraphrasing).

It's all personal preference. I have smaller wrists yet I have a hard time adjusting to 36mm watches.

The question is do YOU like it? If you do, then wear it. It looks fine on you.

The watch after all is for YOU to enjoy.

My first Rolex was a TT Date. I wanted a DJ and was so ignorant at the time I did not know there was a difference in size. I wore it for 22 years and got many compliments. Looks good on you.

I think it is understood that each of us can do as we please with wearing watches. I would say all things in proportion to your wrist size. I would size the watch so that it fit and then see of it feels and looks right to you. I have large wrists, 7.5-7.75, and I have watches that fit for my wrist size. The smallest is 40 mm and the largest is 47 mm. Give it a try, you will know and then go with it.

My girlfriend has a 115200 and I think about stealing it all the time. It's a beautiful watch.

Enjoyed my 34mm while I had; near perfect size for a smallish wrist.

This is my 1500. It was my first ever luxury watch that I purchased 5 years ago. I’ve been wearing it a lot more now with my Tudor GMT being serviced for date wheel issue.

it's a great watch that I don't think a lot of people realize it exists. Brought it to an AD for an insurance quote and they were so confused. They kept asking if it was a Datejust.

Don't worry about all of the folks on here that want to wear a wall clock on their arm. I am 6ft 1 and about 250 LBS I wear a 36 DD and 36 DJ most of the time. I think the smaller sizes are classic and always be in style

Over 50 years ago, I wore my 34 mm Rolex OP through Army parachute course, SF training, dive training and well beyond. Never thought of it as a "ladies watch" and it never missed a beat. OOOAH!

My wife has that exact version. She says it’s perfect. Some diamonds but not too much, big but not too big and it has Oyster bracelet. I like it but wouldn’t wear 34mm although it fits my smaller wrist well. I might go down to 36mm again, regret selling 36mm Explorer just because I saw a woman wearing it.

Fits you just fine imo. Also I think we have way too many forum members that over exaggerate watches being too small. Classic sized watches are small and that’s what they should be. There’s room for both. I always scratch my head at the comments of the 6 digit Subs being too small for some wrists. DJ36 work just fine on large wrists too imo.
