This +1

Go price a WG piece on a bracelet from any of the big three. Then try RG and YG. What? $75k plus new? Heck, go get three Rolex PM. Dang, that does sound good.

I haven’t even talked platinum.

Rolex is by far the best deal. I got mine about 3 years ago and I am unsure you can get 28 points off anymore. Maybe it’s time for that grey market bejeweled PM! Nahhh... I can’t pull it off.

Back to thread. Yes, they do seem to be creeping up in price.

Hard to say. I think we can already see it happening with the lower priced men's watches more specifically the 40mm yachtmaster. Possibly datejust only due to the fact that it is more affordable price-points compared to a sports PM or a DD. With the inflated prices of gold in the last few days will we possibly see the datejust market on the rise also?

PM moving closer to MSRP. Thats the truth. Will it be MSRP or go beyond that? Doubt it.

Yes i think it will before it cools off. AD’s are selling a record number of TT & PM watches. Even the DJ’s are clearing out. So it’s just a matter of time.

I am happy I have a few watches because at the current rate, it looks like it will be a long while before my name comes up to buy anything I want.

I can speak for myself and say that I took the opportunity to sell off a “hot model” (Hulk) that I purchased new way before all the insanity started.

I loved it, but in this market, I was able to capitalize on the increased value and use that difference to help offset the cost of a PM. I’m not a flipper. I had the hulk for 3 years, and never intended to sell. But the fact that I didn’t lose due to depreciation made it easier for me.

If they are others like me, I do think that will (in part) start to drive the PM market up.

I agree. If your AD can't sell you a SS Daytona at list and the secondary market price is 25K for an unworn example, why wouldn't you start looking in the dealers case at the PM examples? I know why, because there's almost nothing to see there either. But the AD tells you he can order you a white gold blue dial or panda dial and you'll have it in a couple of months. And the discount? Forget it. But at least you'll have your Daytona, warrantied with your name and maybe your AD will like you and help you get something else.

Probably PM will go up but the fall later on will be harder since they now produced a lot more of them instead of SS. Unless you think it will continue forever.

I'm seriously debating wether to buy a new Rolex or just put it all in Bitcoin and see what happens.

I’ve asked about a daydate and got offered 5% discount where 20% was possible three years ago. So MRSP is on a horizon.

It seems Rolex PM price growth is following gold price in general. They have real life costs (oil, food, time) and gold is representing that in a way. The SS has gotten a Veblen Good status. It will start to push PM from below once the calibers themselves become a limiting factor. But if price per caliber were to double long term Rolex would certainly increase supply. Bitcoin supply on the other hand strictly limited and it’s going through a revolutionary moment disrupting dollar. Dollar is under threat of hyperinflation from increasing debt. So there’s much more upside room for bitcoin than Rolex.

Most ADs are already not giving a single cent discount on PM models.

My friend recently bought a DD40 and got a measly 5% off. I got over 25% off only few years ago.

All discounts are gone. In Australia and most of Asia a big fat ZERO discount on any PM model.

Market is insane currently but it wont be sustainable forever.

If you are getting PM at MRSP, its because people cant source steel and are looking at cost of PM vs steel from grey market and going that extra bit.

I think PM sports is one of the last bits of value in the range.

Also, some of the comments on this thread are a bit rude and unnecessary. One of the things I enjoy about this forum, is that people speak to each other with a bit of civility.

Although, this is on the basis of an economy having continual growth, if we saw a recession again, I'd imagine PM to take a serious hit.

Rolex was trying hard to stop ADs from discounting ....
Now ..
The opposite result was achieved ...all ADs are selling higher than the suggested retail.

I don't know of anyone who knows the production numbers by Rolex. All data I've seen were guesses.

Happening big time with PP so will happen to Rolex PMs increasingly as money is still coming into this market and needs to find a home.

Great question OP

It’s tough because non sport gold models sort of hold at their original numbers or lose a bit near term. Except for some rare older ones which have done great bao dai(?).

I do think it is possible sport gold models may go for more than msrp because there have been a few rare gold sport models that have appreciated like their stainless brothers. But idk if it is what I would bet on currently.

Imho best value in any rolex right now beyond a doubt is the 16518/116518/16519 etc. imho a strap model daytona may even be more sought out to some than solid yellow because yellow gold/leather and gold/rubber are hot and “accepted” in even the most stodgy boardrooms and events. Where someone like Mick and his aliases would consider it vulgar against the dress code (which is not my view, at all(.

Interesting thoughts. While I don’t think PM watches will see the sharp increase in prices as the SS models, I have noticed the older day dates in 36mm have been few and far between. The “greys” are all out of stock on the 118238’s. Coincidence... I think not.

Nothing like a garden variety recession to bring down market prices and demand on all Rolex models.

PM is not next, it's already happening. I went to AD this and last week in Taipei and Seoul and their shelves are empty, maybe 10 watches in the entire store each. It's like a eastern European supermarket in the early 90s.

Few models maybe and for s short time! Like the new yachtmaster, meteorite GMT And green YG Daytona
Otherwise I don’t see any other pm going above MSRP!!
