Dislike for the maxi case.

Does anyone else not like the maxi case on the ceramic submariner? I love the larger indices & hands, the glidelock bracelet is fantastic but I prefer the case that's on my 16610 Sub. Anyone else feel the same way that I do?

Yes. I find the aesthetics of the 5 digits overall more harmonious. However, I do have a maxi case sub and, despite my preference of the prior, there wasn't a white gold sub before, so I had to go 6 digit

Yes... I love everything about the six digit Subs except the maxi case. It's why I ended up selling mine.

What's a "maxi case"? Supercase, FWIW! And you've been a member since 2009... and you've yet to realize plenty of people dislike the thicker lugs on the six digit references. JFC! What's the point of threads like this?

The lugs are too wide. Makes it look somewhat rectangular. Not enough taper. The SD43 has stunning proportions.

My biggest problem with the supercase is the wide lugs....imo the perfect supercase is the one featured on the 50th anniversary Sea Dweller with the lugs similar to what was featured on the 5 digits with the larger markers on the dial.

I think the 5 digit is much better proportioned. Just needs the glide lock

It's the case on the current series of 6 digit professional watches, in this case the op having referenced the Submariner. It is marked by a squared off look with wider lugs compared to it's older siblings, which enjoy narrower lugs.

Supercase, not "maxi case." If you're going to be critical of something, don't be so freakin' lazy when it comes to identifying things.

Maxi case. Super dial. Hulk, bluesy, Smurf. It's all made up. Not all that ire-inducing, for the most part.

I own some 5 + 6 digit watches and like both equally. My first Rolex was a Sub C so that as a starting point might have changed my perspective on this topic.

Well, you may be a little late to the party eh? The Sub in its current iteration has been out for a decade now. And they are more popular than ever. Most who want a new one in the last two years or so can't even buy one and there are virtually none in any ADs display case. I would say other than those who visit watch forums the case shape is a non issue. I have a 116618LB and love it. I personally have no interest in owning a 5 digit reference anymore. In fact, they actually feel small on my 7.5 inch wrist

I thought the 6 digit watch lugs looked too wide until I got my GMT with the supercase. I find that now when I put on my 5 digit Sub the lugs look a bit too slim, like my dress watches.

The Supercase isn’t for everyone. I personally think it works well on the Submariner and GMTs. YMMV

get a Kermit (50th anniv. green bezel sub) and change to a black bezel. they have what you are looking for without the maxicase.

I love the slimmer case and lugs until I realize a few polish during RSC will thin out the case too much and hurt resell value.

I also prefer shape of 16610 case. But I do not dislike the 116610 case by any means. Even with case preference, I am choosing 6dig alll day as every other comparison between the two watches, goes to the 6dig...

I considered trading to 5 digit a few times. When I finally tried them on side by side, it wasn’t even close IMO. The 5 dig is certainly “classic”, but 6 dig is simply amazing. Same goes for all other options that I have tried... 116710BLNR/LN, Explorer, DJ, even SD43 fell short to my love for SubC date.

X2. It’s the look of a 42mm watch in a 40mm size.

The reason I bought a sd43. Looks disproportionate.

Maxi deep sea are garbage waaaay too thick. Sd4k and sd43 not nearly as thick therefore better...

I absolutely appreciate the 5 digit case but man.. I really do love my 114060. Seeing the watch in pictures is one thing but in person it’s just perfect. I don’t currently own any 5 digit models and I definitely wouldn’t rule them out (and yes I have tried many), but there’s something enjoyable about the heft and quality feel of the 6 digits.

Man. I feel like I hate maxi cases because of my preference towards thinner and slimmer vintage models. However, I will admit that having a 6 digit sub would make my life infinitely easier as a beater watch so I don't have to be so paranoid about my 5513/1675

I prefer the 6-digit models to the 5-digit in every way EXCEPT the wider lugs. If Rolex narrowed the lugs and crown guards a little bit they would hit the ultimate sweet spot IMO.

I like the supercase and feel it gives the Sub more of a tool watch look. I appreciate the beefiness including the lugs.
