Which to take for a week of hiking and lobster?
Hello everyone! I'm taking the family away for a week at Acadia National Park in Maine. While there we plan to take in the scenery by hiking every day. And then enjoying my favorite hobby....eating and drinking at the best local spots.
My question to you all is which watch to take? Your choices are: 1) Rolex Yacht-Master (blue dial) 2) Omega Planet Ocean in titanium Would appreciate your thoughts and comments. Thanks! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

Maybe best to pick up a Breitling Emergency, just in case.

Why would the Seamaster ever get wrist time between those two is my question...
Obviously the YM gets my vote |

Take both.
For a week, I usually take two or three.

Most importantly, you stop in Portland, Go to the Portland Head Light and have a Lobster Roll at Bite into Maine. Picnic style is my favorite. Best Lobster Roll in the US. hands down.

Just too good an excuse to get a new watch: either an Explorer I or II of the 5 digit variety.

None of the above. Take beater and you won't be worrying about slipping on the rocks.

Love the PO.
But I’m going YM on this one.

Polished watch vs. primarily brushed watch for hiking....the PO for sure. Not like the PO would look out of place even at an upscale restaurant as it is still a luxury watch.
I take my Seiko SKX007 on a NATO strap for every hiking trip I take. Could care less if it gets (more) scratches and have more sentimental value with that watch than any other. I even wore it to the hospital when my daughter was born just to build even more memories with it. Last edited by thewheel82; 25 June 2019 at 03:47 AM.. Reason: spelling |

Either or both plus a cheap digital watch for hiking. I'll be in Acadia as well soon, and I'll most likely bring the Sub plus my Casio protrek for hiking.

Is it better to bring a master of seas or a master of yachts for hikes and to eat lobster? I say a Yacht-Master for what you're doing.
If you were going out to set lobster traps and go fishing for the day I'd vote for the Seamaster. |

Congrats on your trip to Acadia! I grew up in Bar Harbor, worked in town at a bike shop as a teenager and it sure is nice in the summer. I highly recommend hiking Dorr Mountain and The Beehive if you get a chance and aren't afraid of steeps and rung ladders. As far as watches, I don't think you will be ostracized if you wear a Rolex but Maine as you may know is not a fancy place. If you want to fit in, I'd wear a G-Shock (or maybe a hemp bracelet, haha). If you want to look like a prosperous visitor "from away" either of your choices are very classy sports watches that are waterproof enough to withstand a few juicy lobster dinners. When I'm in town I usually wear my Black Bay.

I'd go with the Ti Planet Ocean. Couple weeks ago, I did multi-day hiking/camping to the Colorado river at the Grand Canyon, with a loaded 25-pound hiking pack with tent/sleeping bag/mat/food/water/... I would try to keep the weight down. I was wearing my Seiko Turtle and at end of the hike the watch became dirty with the sweat, dirt, skin rubbing, few new scratches...
