Looking for recommendations for a daily
I’m in the process of selling off some pieces and I’m looking for a new daily wearer that will compliment my FP Journe CB.
My criteria is as follows... Must fit a smaller wrist so 41mm or smaller. No leather strap, needs to be rubber or bracelet. Needs to have a water resistance rating for swimming. Time only (date function is nice but not required) Be under $15k new or preowned. Already owned Patek 5167, 5164, AP ROO Diver, Blancpain bathyscaphe, vacheron Overseas Chrono gen II. Blancpain Fifty Fathoms. Rolex Subs, seadwellers, yacht master I and II. Tudor Pelagos. Looked at Omegas and didn’t see anything I liked, nothing from Tudor either. Right now I’m considering FP Journe Elegante and H Mosier Pioneer. Any insight into what else I should be looking into? |

That's a great suggestion, not something I would have thought of.
Thanks! |

Huh, that is actually a tougher question than I thought looking at your requirements and the list of previously owned pieces.
I see the Breguet 5817 has already been mentioned, so even though these aren’t anywhere near $15k, here are a few that come to mind: BLNR, Zenith EL Primero 1969 with bracelet, PAM 048 or PAM 050 with bracelet, Grand Seiko SBGA211 or SBGJ201, or Blancpain Tribute Fifty Fathoms MIL-SPEC. But, yeah, probably a Submariner makes the most sense given your criteria. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

IWC Mark 18 on a bracelet? Mine is on leather. Sporty watch, not dressy.

Sinn 104 is a great beater. Cheap, reliable and reviews of it are fantastic, also waterproof to 660ft. It is 41mm and comes on leather, you just need to grab a rubber strap. I plan on picking up a white dial for something different.
I have a Mark XVIII and highly recommend it. I have the blue dial and it is honestly one of my favorite watches of all time. With that said, it is not really a summer diver. 6bar rated so yes you can swim with it, but it is happier in the air over water.

Thanks for the suggestions and links.
If I were to raise my budget to $20K, do you see anything else worth considering? I like the BP FF Milspec, AP 15300, Mosier Pioneer, FPJ Elegante, IWC Mark 18 and the JLC Polaris. |

AP 15300 is a great looking watch, but its 50m water resistance would have me worried to wear it in the water. For me, in order to wear a watch swimming, it has to have a minimum of 100m WR. I’ve worn 50m watches in the ocean and it has not gone well. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I think it’s best to wear watches in the water that have an aquatic name: Submariner, Seadweller, Seamaster, Superocean, etc.
I keep my dress watches dry. I wear a $17 Casio in the water, personally. |

El-Duderino, the Sinn 104 is seriously sharp with a bright white face. My photo has a yellowish cast that detracts from the watch’s beauty. Sorry to add that, but the good news is that the watch is relatively affordable.

For me the answer is simple and obvious. Either get the rolex daytona or a grand seiko that you like. Done.

Hey Tom. My recommendation is one of the new Polaris models from SIHH 2018. Of course I haven’t seen them in the metal yet, but they seem to meet all of your criteria (and mine) for a perfect daily wearer.

Upping the budget to 20k puts you within range of the VC Overseas 3rd generation three-hander. That’s a beauty of a watch, and with the three different strap options included it makes a great daily.
