Pepsi question
So I have a modest Collection, but it appears I have caught the sickness. I am considering a Pepsi GMT, but I have an issue. Everyone I have tried on has felt very light almost toy like, or cheap. Is this due to the hollow links or lighter steel? I have tried everything up to late 90's watches and all of them feel the same. What is the last year of the SS GMT Pepsi, and might it feel more substantial, or am I stick with a blro??? Any insight would be helpful.

Pepsi all have the non Maxi case. They all have folded claps and Aluminum bezel inserts. All these things make for lighter feeling watches. In performance and durability there is very little to no difference between the older and the new. I believe the design elements stayed consistent until the 116710 replaced the 16710 in 2007.

After wearing 6 digit models, I too had the bug for a 16710 Coke, until I tried it on and had exactly the same response as you. I couldn't get past it. In my mind now, the only option for a 16710 would have to include swapping the bracelet with a new glidelock from the Submariner, which would increase the purchase price by about $2K - $2,500. So, I opted for the 116710LN at the time, and later moved to the BLNR. I still long for the look of the Coke and Pepsi, but can't get past how light and almost delicate the watch feels, in my opinion.

Well a blnr is definitely next, but is there a source for authentic Rolex bracelets? I had heard that these were restricted from Rolex and you had to send an old one in to get a replacement.

They occasionally come up for sale in the classified, but normally don't sit there very long.

My Pepsi with the SEL (solid end link bracelet) does not feel like a toy. Similar to by SubC and BLNR bracelet but not as heavy. I think the SEL bracelets started around year 2000 for the GMTs.

My Pepsi was a 16700 so a bit earlier. Really another tact with the GMTs is to get a Jubilee bracelet instead of an oyster. Does the SEL bracelet still have the folded clasp? To level with my perspective; when Rolex stopped making watches with the folded clasp they caved to pressure making Rolexes for jewelry instead of as tool watches. For many this was a sad occurrence. I suspect the newer bracelets have more issues than the older ones with their simpler no frills practical design.

16710 SEL bracelets still had hollow the center links and the old style clasp, making them significantly lighter than the 6 digit bracelets. I don’t think the older bracelets feel like “toys” but they certainly feel less substantial.

Look for SEL with lug-holes. Around the year 2000.

I thought mine a bit too small on my wrist was the major reason for getting a swop to a 116613LB.
