Of course I trust bartenders , cooks and waitstaff to just do their job . I have no problem telling overly friendly , sketchy fellow patrons to buzz off .

You read them like a book, thrilled you were able shut them down, a great lesson for us all. I can just imagine someone with multiple drinks in them, perhaps we would be sharing an unfortunate story days later regarding it!!
Well done MrGoat!!

Well done MrGoat!!

Certainly!! You must stay within your limits, whether that’s 2 or 20 drinks. When you get sloppy you’re an even larger target.

Soo glad you were on top of your game regarding your surroundings and red flags going off. Sounds like if you weren’t things could have gone south in hurry.

Possibly, no telling though. Just be vigilant out there, whether you’re in a known place in your hometown or in a shady bar in another country. Always be aware and vigilant, no matter where you are you can become a target.

For instance, I have been to this place at least a hundred times, I know the owners, it’s less than 10 miles from my house in a town I’ve lived in off and on for 35 yrs. Yet this happened in broad daylight on a Sunday where I would presumably feel safe and my guard would be lower. There is predators out there everywhere trying to take advantage of anyone they think they can make a buck off of. Being aware and acting when things don’t add up can be the difference between another news article posted on the forum or just a odd encounter you laugh at later.

Crazy story. Glad you were aware of the situation and not falling for the scam. Scares the hell out of me to be honest.

One of the best books I ever read was called, "The Gift of Fear" Well worth it. As a former cop, when that little voice in your head is telling you something, you should probably listen to it.

Glad it worked out in a positive way for you and your uncle.

After reading the description of the perps I envisioned them as characters straight out of Grand Theft Auto.
Glad you were able to identify them before they were able to get their claws into you and your uncle.
As a New Englander I'm always skeptical whenever a stranger is friendly. As a fat married guy I'm always skeptical when an attractive woman talks to me. I'm not delusional or unrealistic. If she wants me she probably really just wants attention or money. She gets neither. It's not nice but it keeps me out of trouble.
I'd have liked to be a fly on the wall when their plan failed and you walked away. Damn predators.

I respect that, we all need to know our own personal limits and safe zone. I apologize for bringing experiences that are scary to some to light on the forum.

Hopefully this thread can help at least one person be safer.

Hahahaha, I don’t think I can actually picture a grand theft auto character. They looked like a mostly normal young couple to me. He was quite a bit shorter than her though which isn’t odd just not the usual.

It was definitely the approach and subsequent conversation and behavior that set off the bells and whistles.

I am incredibly happy in my relationship and would never think of cheating so straight off the bat that was strike one against their plan.

Yeah, when I walked up with new beers and started whispering in my uncles ear what was going on, their entire demeanor changed. Panic set in, body language got jumpy, faces showed panic and apprehension and they were quick to suggest “we will just let you two practice by yourselves!” And then they were gone as quick as they came in.

Great cautionary tale and good example of well executed situational awareness.

Hopefully it helps someone out there. Either to help them gain better situational awareness and wear their watches more or at least keep them from getting jacked because they realized stuff looked off in a sketchy situation.
