Icon17 Help with Datejust 1601

Hi everyone!

I just purchased my first Rolex DateJust 1601, and I was wondering if anyone could tell me about no lume dials.

The watch has lumed hands but has a no lume dial.(photo attached)
Would Rolex make them like this?

Thanks!

I think your GTG, ask these questions before you buy though.

Enjoy your watch, early DJ are timeless.

Thanks! I bought it from HQ Milton so I'm not worried about authenticity.
Just wanted to educate myself more one the subject.

Rolex did make non-lume dials, most notably CERN dials. The most sought after would be the early Milgauss CERN examples.

It may be very likely that yours was such a dial, but the non-lume hands have been changed out for the more common variety.

Not to worry. I have a 1969 DJ (1603) with non-lume dial and lume hands as well. I did tons of research and determined, like most things Rolex during that period, there are many variations in DJs; this being one of them. It makes it more unique. Another advantage is you never have to be concerned about the lume pealing off and causing any dial deterioration. A common issue with many vintage pieces.

Nice DJ. Enjoy

I followed up with the dealer and he said that the watch is 100% factory original.

Thanks. I couldn't find the right information on the 1601 DJ No Lume Dials. Would you mind sharing some sites with good information about vintage Rolex models?

This can be a legit combination IMO. That's an appealing watch.

Sure. First, this vintage forum on TRF has some amazing Rolex reference information and excellent commentary in the archives. Just search on this vintage forum and your bound to find loads of good Rolex vintage info and discussions and commentary from many of the experts right here. Another site I like is Eric Ku’s Ten Past 10 website on all things vintage Rolex. Enjoy the adventure and welcome!
