A power source we've not really tapped into....

Geothermal....

"The molten core of the Earth, about 4,000 miles down, is roughly as hot as the surface of the sun, over 6,000°C, or 10,800°F. That’s why the geothermal energy industry is fond of calling it “the sun beneath our feet.”"

"The ARPA-E project AltaRock Energy estimates that “just 0.1% of the heat content of Earth could supply humanity’s total energy needs for 2 million years.”

I read that article when it posted, fascinating stuff! The majority of the planet is a pre-fabricated and well-shielded nuclear power plant, just need a way to tap the energy safely. The real interesting part is that the tech to do so has been developed in part by countries like Iceland who have the easy access points, and in part by the shale gas industry.

It’s amazing how much energy is available without the need to burn things to access it.

Every system has its pros & cons though

Very interesting read. Friends of ours recently built a new house and put in geothermal for heat and a/c. Cool stuff...

My 30 year old Geothermal Split system has bee running flawlessly! It operated at 57% cost vs fossil fuels over the period! It’s really been well worth the extra upfront expense. We drilled two 500’ wells (one pump one dump) and zoned into three systems.
Two disadvantages however, which can and will be addressed when a replacement is needed... install the best longest lasting strongest pump possible, I had to replace the pump 3X...secondly, create a secondary dump for overflow, the dump well runs over onto the yard during heavy use.

Old news you hockey puck...
