CoronaVirus and Asian Market
So I was watching the news and was just wondering. Asia is such a huge market for Rolex. With so many cities limiting transport I wonder if Rolex temporarily shifts distribution to us folks here in the West Europe/USA.
Just thought its an interesting thought on economics. |

It’s currently Chinese New Year in Asia.
All ADs i spoke to haven’t received any stocks since before Christmas. Expecting stocks to start arriving second half of Feb, most ADs are completely dry. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

BumbleB, Are you saying the east asian ADs have not had deliveries? Or that US ADs are on hold since deliveries are going to those in asia?

CoronaVirus and Asian Market

Sorry, I’m based in Asia. So all the ADs I spoke to in Asia haven’t received any stock from Rolex since Christmas. Apparently Rolex shuts down every year around christmas and it’s normal the ADs don’t receive watches for a month, but this year it’s compounded by Chinese New Year. I just read an article on Bloomberg with regards to the impact this is having on Apple and their supply chain. Even at work I'm seeing delays from vendors.

They are shutting down cities ports and trucking in certain areas... surely. The Chinese are not focus on buying watches.
Of course it’s going to hit demand. And also supply will back up here and I don’t mean grey dealer supply... aD’s will be getting more supply |

There was another thread about the same topic. I can't find it, though. I think it got infected with the stupidity virus.

As someone else pointed out....this years flu strain kills far more...but not getting the hype/reports that we see on the news. We are numb to it. Markets are down, some other companies are notably affected with shipping/logistics. Just because I happen to be on a waitlist for a hot model didn't I was hoping for more unfortunate souls in Asia to get a watch faster. |

These threads... It seems like everyday someone is bringing this up.
I should start a new one. If you knew of a SS Daytona in the case at an AD in Wuhan would you fly in to get one? Yes, I'm kidding. |

5726 in blue dial? I’d be on the next flight. I might have to do a bit of 007 work to get it done...but no guts no glory.

I posted this in another thread:
The mortality rate is in line with the influenza death rate in China (around 1.6-2.6%). There are currently around 1.2 billion people in China; that there currently just over 6,000 cases is statistically irrelevant. People should be concerned, but as of right now there is an overreaction. That it is Spring Festival made the situation worse. Arguably this is why the Chinese government imposed a lockdown on Wuhan etc. There will be a lot more cases and deaths (just like any major flu outbreak), but right now the level of paranoia and fear is quite breathtaking. I will also add that most of the deaths have been to the elderly and those with pre-existing medical conditions. By way of comparison, there have been about 6,600 deaths due to influenza in the US this flu season. It is still early days and the death toll as a percentage may rise quite dramatically. Time will tell. |

@ Fat Ninja -- Can you share context as to what the red circles are and what their diameter signifies?
According to that map, a majority of China is "infected" and appears that approximately a 1/3rd of Myanmar, all of Singapore, and all of Bangkok is, too. I'm not discrediting John Hopkins at all, but I am questioning the things that happen and the reactions we are looking for when we put huge red dots all over the map.
