In 2016 I was offered a 5712/1A from Tiffany. I almost pulled the trigger but then thought that extra stamp on the dial somehow detracted from the purity of having a Patek Philippe in its rawest unadulterated form.
Well that was a hasty move, truth be told, as I didn't know about the history between the two brands at the time. But the kicker, as you are all well aware, is the fact that the watch is now commanding over $150k! Obviously hindsight is 20-20, but this one stings as I was so close to pulling the trigger. A few years ago, prior to this nautilus craze, i turned down a 5712 for 30k brand new from my AD. Also, turned down two blue dialed 5711s and one white dial! Still kicking myself

I sold my very mint 5164 travel time and NOS 3710 comet tail. Wish I i have kept them.
On the other hand, I am glad I also bought brand new 5980 and 5167 and AP Jumbo from my AD. Lesson learnt and I wont sell them. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Generally people only have regrets because of the financial angle. I regret selling my 5711 white for 20k but I had zero regret until the price doubled.

5712 before the most recent price hike, around Nov 2017. I had just made a big vintage rolex purchase, and sure enough...my tastes have fallen out of vintage and now I can't get what I want after selling much of my vintage collection off.
Mine is not driven by the price increase, my regret is driven from a personal collection perspective. |

Dang I've been really trying to avoid contributing to this thread because I feel embarrassed telling this.. but it keeps getting bumped so maybe its time to vent...Over the last about 9-10 months my AD has offered 5711 blue, 5711 white, 5726 strap and 5990! It was always this or that reason but mainly because I just simply couldn't decide what one Nautilus I wanted and kept going back and forth.. yes yes i know big time. Now that I know what I want, allocation is much less this year and its a much longer wait

mine pales in comparison to most of these, but really regret passing on a tiffany 5164a, had it in my hands and went with the 116655, still love the Rolex, but can't believe I passed on that! (I was able to get a 5164a in the end though, so all is well!)

Year 2002. I had just bought a 3445 retailed by Tiffany at Christies. So I looked for other Patek/Tiffany watches. On eBay, found a Ref 3700 in very good condition. Outbid one other eBayer and got it at $4,000 just above the reserve price. We were the only two bidders. The seller was on the fence at that price and I got cold feet and we mutually agreed to cancel the trade.

3939H in rg with black dial about 12 years ago, yet the owner wanted $700k. Even my friend at H Stern felt he was asking far too much for it and i agree so passed. Glad it got away, as prices have drastically fallen for the 3939 series.

Sure there's a financial theme to a lot of these, but also availability. And with hindsight, these were financially "bad" decisions, many times they're not done because the timing just wasn't right. About 4-5 years ago, I passed on blue 5980 complete pre-owned for $39k. I would love to have that watch at that price now, but on the bright side, I do have a new 5167/1A on the way.

Worse for me, blue 5711 from DavidSW for that same price and I passed on it, end of 2011.
Still have the pictures he sent me.
