Tacky two tone?
I’m struggling to settle on a two tone Rolex to add to my collection.
Local AD has a two tone Daytona discounted $2500 due to scratches on the bezel. They also have a pre owned Yacht-Master, the gold on the yachtmaster looks too gaudy / tacky... or is it just me? Am I foolish to go with a simple two tone datejust? |

I’m not a big fan of two-tone bracelets in general, so I got a set of Rolex croc straps for my GMT.

IMHO Rolex TT watches generally work. TT only gets a bad rap because there have been many cheap gold plated quartz watches over the years that look like crap when new - and worse when the "gold" starts flaking off. The Rolex TT watches never share that look and obviously are real gold. With the Rolex two tones - I like that the gold dresses the watch up a bit without going into full bracelet gold (which to me is uncomfortably showy unless you go white gold). Matter of taste obviously - your mileage may vary).
The only thing I don't like is that they're obviously not as scratch resistant as a full steel - so I don't wear mine doing some of the things I would wear one of my full steel sports models (washing dishes, perhaps washing the car - etc). Here's my TT GMTM2. Also, the resale is ok, but not as fantastic as with the full steel models (particularly with the Daytonas) - so be mindful what you pay. |
