Hello all,

Been a lurker here for a bit but just mustered up the courage for a first post. At age 40 I recently became interested in watches after spending the past decade or so mostly wearing a faux vintage military Timex. To say I'm a novice would be a bit of an understatement.

Knowing I wanted my first Serious Watch, I embarked on a search that lasted months. My search went through a number of twists and turns from the humble Oris 65 to an Exp II to a Sub to a BB58 to a Railmaster to finally walking into an AD and walking out with a 214270.

Please try to ignore the poorly staged photo and the obvious smudge at 12, sigh.

Anyway, I love it. Was worried about the 39mm size but in my humble opinion it is just about perfect for me. I've had it on my wrist almost constantly. Never did I imagine that a watch on a bracelet could be so comfortable to wear. However - as much as I swore up and down to my wife that this would be my One And Only, I've already found myself thinking about my Next One. I'm thinking it should be a diver. Will be watching closely what Tudor does with their BB58 case over the next couple of years.

Cheers all!

not sure if this has been discussed anywhere in the forums before... i know there has been a shortage of SS sport models, but is the explorer 214270 considered one of these SS sport models?

is this model readily available in AD's?

I do believe the Exp is considered a SS sport model, yes. I'm not sure how to define "readily available" but I believe it is commonly accepted that the Exp is more available than the other sport models.

I can tell you what I personally experienced. There are two Rolex ADs in Tulsa. One AD had zero Rolex SS sport models, including the Exp. They had no confidence they would get any before the end of the year. The second AD had an Exp, an Exp II (white), a SD and a YM.

New Explorer Landed

Mentioned to my AD I’d like to see the 214270 whilst waiting for my 116500LN and despite being advised of a small waiting list, I’ve had a call to go and look at one they had took delivery of. Went into the store today and had to walk out with this beauty. Very pleased to have added to my collection and join the club 👌 Can’t get over how comfortable it is on the wrist.

I bought one without ever having tried one on. Glad i did, it’s a wonderful watch and is highly under rated IMO. Congrats on the new addition!

Thanks very much, have to agree, the more research I did, very quickly realised this was highly underrated. Think this will get some good wrist time.

Wow, this is the greatest watch ever. Hands down, if only Rolex would launch a remake of this.

Just joined the Explorer club. Traded in my beloved Omega Seamaster which, unfortunately wasn’t getting any wrist time. Love the simplicity, weight and profile of the Explorer. Wears very different from my Subs. Check out this lume.

Explorer 114270 in the plane

I always thought it a bit weird that we have a long running post of Rolex in a plane. I was on a small commuter flight from Denver recently and getting tossed all over the sky. I thought I'd take my mind off the turbulence by taking an Explorer pic.
We were around the Vail pass. The very young flight attendant was white knuckling the trip but took a second to smile at my attempt at passing the time. As we deplaned she looked a bit green around the edges but did say that she liked my watch and wanted to know if it were a Fossil..........

I’ve had my Explorer for three days now.

It’s growing on me.
