Questions on a Rolex 1803 Velvet Confetti Dial
Hi fellow forum-ers,
I have come across this pretty Vintage Rolex 1803 with an uncommon velvet confetti dial. The movement is a 1555 with a butterfly rotor which dates this to between 1959 and 1967. Engravings between the lugs are no longer visible. Inside of case back seems to have the right engravings but the back of the case back seems to have “silvery/steel” appearance. I am wondering : 1) is it common to see such those “silvery” appearance in an old 18k caseback? Or are they basically indicators that the caseback is a fake caseback (Steel caseback coated in gold)? 2) I am not very well learnt on the Confetti dial but does any expert here know whether a Confetti dial is found in the period of 1959 and 1967? 3) or does anyone see something not right about this 1803? For example the 18k embossing at the lugs? Thanks and all comments are welcome. Picture will follow Cheers. |

While perhaps real, the buffed s/n is a symptom of a stolen watch. There is no other legitimate reason to polish between the lugs.

I believe all the parts (except the caseback?) are real. Just can’t figure out whether Confetti dials were put into 1803 between 1959 and 1967, and if they were, should not the hands be arrow hands?
Next is the décolorations on the caseback. Does yellow gold casebacks “fade” or “decolored”? On the polished lugs, yes, I have seen hard to see engravings but rarely totally polished lugs like that. |

Pass as stated zero reason to remove serial and model. Even a pawn shop won’t buy it lol.
